TFP Bureau, New Delhi, May 7, 2024: The third phase of the General Elections 2024, covering 93 Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs) across 11 States and Union Territories, concluded today with a notable voter turnout of approximately 61.45% as of 8 PM. Despite polling officially ending at 6 PM, enthusiastic voters continued to queue up at various polling stations, highlighting their dedication to the democratic process.
Citizens from 11 States/UTs participated enthusiastically, braving adverse weather conditions in some areas, to cast their votes. This phase introduced a new initiative by the Election Commission of India (ECI), leveraging SMS alerts, WhatsApp messages, and voice calls featuring national and state icons, supported by major Telecom Service Providers, to encourage voter participation.
With Phase-3 coming to a close, polling has now been completed in 20 States/UTs and 283 PCs for the General Elections 2024. A total of 1,331 candidates contested in this phase, reflecting the diverse electoral landscape of the country.
The state-wise approximate voter turnout as of 8 PM is as follows:
– Assam: 75.26%
– Bihar: 56.55%
– Chhattisgarh: 66.99%
– Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu: 65.23%
– Goa: 74.27%
– Gujarat: 56.76%
– Karnataka: 67.76%
– Madhya Pradesh: 63.09%
– Maharashtra: 54.77%
– Uttar Pradesh: 57.34%
– West Bengal: 73.93%
The Election Commission emphasized that the voter turnout data displayed is approximate and will be continually updated on the Voter Turnout App (VTR App) as polling parties conclude their duties and submit Form 17 C, detailing the actual votes polled at each station.
The conduct of elections was reported to be smooth and peaceful across all States/UTs, including areas affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) and vulnerable regions in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. The Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar along with other Election Commissioners, closely monitored every aspect of the electoral process, ensuring a conducive environment for voters.
In a testament to India’s robust democracy, 75 international delegates from 23 countries observed the polling process across multiple states, commending the transparency and festive spirit exhibited by voters.
The next phase of polling (Phase 4) is scheduled for May 13, 2024, covering 96 PCs across 10 States/UTs.
