Cutting-Edge Technology Enhances Safety and Sustainability

TFP Bureau, Korba; May 21, 2024: Bharat Aluminum Company Limited (BALCO), a leading entity in the Vedanta Group, has unveiled the Ash Control Tower, a groundbreaking digital solution aimed at revolutionizing its fly ash management infrastructure. This state-of-the-art technology, equipped with real-time Artificial Intelligence (AI) monitoring, is set to bolster safety standards while advancing sustainable ash management practices.

Fly ash, a by-product of thermal power generation, finds extensive use across sectors such as brick manufacturing, road construction, infrastructure projects, and agriculture. As part of its circular economy commitment, BALCO has forged partnerships with various industries to ensure the sustainable utilization of fly ash, significantly contributing to carbon emissions reduction and resource conservation. In FY 2024 alone, BALCO supplied over 4 million metric tonnes of fly ash to these sectors, achieving a remarkable 141% utilization rate.

The Ash Control Tower (ACT) provides continuous monitoring to ensure compliance with ash management protocols and streamline ash transportation logistics. Utilizing a geofencing system and integrated cameras, this technology facilitates seamless vehicle movement, enhancing road safety and traffic management. Real-time AI-powered video telematics offer insights into driver behavior, supporting driver safety initiatives and risk mitigation strategies.

Equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), the 24×7 monitoring system enhances safety by detecting blind spots and issuing alerts, reducing the need for manual speed and position checks. Furthermore, ACT offers comprehensive analytical capabilities, enabling proactive risk assessment and informed decision-making, thus bolstering operational preparedness.

Mr. Rajesh Kumar, CEO and Director of BALCO, emphasized the company’s commitment to operational excellence and sustainable practices through technological innovation. Digital initiatives across various operational domains have not only improved efficiency but also fostered a safety-first culture.
