Urban Bodies Receive Rs 65.72 Crore in Councilor Funds from Urban Administration Department

Funds Allocated Under Octroi Compensation for Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, and Municipal Panchayats

TFP Bureau, Raipur; July 1, 2024: The Urban Administration and Development Department has disbursed a total of Rs 65,72,24,500 as councilor funds to 166 urban bodies across Chhattisgarh under the octroi compensation category. This allocation includes Rs 21,96,00,000 to 14 municipal corporations, Rs 19,46,24,500 to 44 municipalities, and Rs 24,30,00,000 to 108 municipal panchayats.

The decision to release these funds was approved by Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Shri Arun Saw for the financial year 2023-24. The funds are aimed at supporting various developmental projects and initiatives undertaken by urban local bodies.

Specifically, each of the Raipur, Bhilai, and Bilaspur municipal corporations received Rs 2,10,00,000, while other municipal corporations like Birgaon, Dhamtari, Risali, Bhilai-Charoda, and Chirmiri were allotted Rs 1,20,00,000 each. Municipal corporations such as Jagdalpur, Raigarh, and Ambikapur received Rs 1,44,00,000 each, and Durg Municipal Corporation was allocated Rs 1,80,00,000.

Under the octroi compensation scheme, smaller urban bodies like Tilda-Navara, Kondagaon, Mungeli, Manendragarh, Gobra Nawapara, Balodabazar, Bemetara, Kanker, and Deepka municipalities received varying amounts ranging from Rs 49,50,000 to Rs 40,50,000 based on their respective needs and developmental priorities.

Furthermore, all 108 Nagar Panchayats across the state were granted Rs 22,500 each to support local development initiatives. This includes areas such as Abhanpur, Kharora, Kunra, Mana Camp, Lavan, Kasdol, and others, highlighting the widespread distribution of funds to foster urban development at the grassroots level.

The allocation of councilor funds is part of the state government’s commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure and service delivery capabilities across Chhattisgarh.
