At Nuakhai celebrations in Raipur, President stresses women’s equal participation, respect for farmers and environmental protection; 2,548 people, including 1,188 women, donate blood

TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 22, 2026: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday called upon young people to dream big, continuously expand their knowledge and dedicate their achievements to the service of society and the nation, saying India’s journey towards becoming a developed country would gain momentum when individual ambitions were aligned with collective goals.

Addressing the Seva Samman Parv and Yuva Prabodhan Samaroh at Sardar Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium in Raipur on the occasion of Nuakhai, the President said young people should approach challenges with courage, learn from failures and strive to create positive change in society.

Governor Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, other public representatives and a large gathering of youth, women and citizens attended the programme.

Extending Nuakhai greetings, Murmu said the festival represented more than a cultural gathering, reflecting India’s agricultural traditions, social harmony and gratitude towards nature. She emphasised that food symbolised the hard work of farmers and the gifts of the earth.

“Respecting food, recognising the contribution of farmers and protecting natural resources are our collective responsibility,” she said.

Knowledge, ambition and service must go together

The President urged young people to cultivate a habit of lifelong learning by reading books, asking questions, acquiring new skills and remaining open to new ideas.

She said success and failure were both integral to life and that setbacks should encourage young people to improve themselves rather than lose confidence.

Murmu emphasised that knowledge should be accompanied by humility, ambition by ethical values and success by a spirit of service. Achievements become meaningful, she said, when an individual’s talent helps others, addresses social problems and brings positive change.

She added that nation-building depended not only on major policy decisions but also on the honest and dedicated efforts of ordinary citizens. Young people, she said, could contribute significantly to the vision of a developed India by performing their responsibilities with integrity and sensitivity.

Equal opportunities for women essential to developed India

Highlighting the participation of women at the event, Murmu said their equal involvement in all spheres of life was essential to achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047.

The country could not realise its full potential without empowering half its population, she said, urging women to participate actively in social and national development.

She also called upon men, particularly young men, to ensure that their sisters and daughters received the freedom, support and opportunities needed to fulfil their aspirations.

Respect for women, she said, must be reflected in everyday behaviour and conduct rather than remaining confined to words.

Bastar witnessing change through development

Referring to changes in Chhattisgarh, the President expressed satisfaction that coordinated efforts by the Central and state governments, along with the determination of young people, were helping bring youth away from the path of Naxalism and into the mainstream.

Areas once affected by fear and violence were now witnessing development, she said, adding that the transformation was benefiting young people, their families and the state as a whole.

Murmu’s remarks highlighted the importance of combining security measures with opportunities for education, employment and social advancement.""

Governor calls for a culture of service

Governor Ramen Deka said Nuakhai celebrated the arrival of the new harvest while expressing gratitude to Mother Earth and acknowledging farmers’ hard work. The festival also reinforced social unity, cooperation and Chhattisgarh’s agricultural traditions.

Describing the President’s presence as a source of inspiration, Deka said her journey, simplicity and dedication to public service offered valuable lessons for young people.

He urged youth to make service a way of life, avoid substance abuse and stay away from misguided paths. Education, skills, innovation and strong moral values, he said, were essential to building a healthy society and a developed nation.

The Governor also praised the blood donors who participated in the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, describing voluntary blood donation as a significant contribution to humanity.

Murmu’s journey inspires daughters and youth: Sai

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai welcomed the President on behalf of the people of Chhattisgarh, describing her life as an inspiring example of perseverance, simplicity, education and public service.

He said her journey from a village in Odisha to the country’s highest constitutional office was particularly inspiring for women, young people and citizens from tribal and rural communities.

Sai also highlighted the longstanding cultural ties between Chhattisgarh and Odisha, saying the Odia community had contributed to the state’s development through its hard work and spirit of service.

He said organising the Seva Samman and Yuva Prabodhan programmes during Nuakhai connected cultural traditions with social service and youth empowerment.

New medical colleges, AI training and startup support

The Chief Minister said young people were central to the state’s efforts to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.

He outlined initiatives aimed at expanding education, employment, skill development, innovation and entrepreneurship in Chhattisgarh.

According to Sai, five new medical colleges have been started in Geedam, Kunkuri, Janjgir-Champa, Manendragarh and Kawardha to expand access to medical education.

A National Skill Training Institute is being established in Nava Raipur, with plans to train approximately 4,000 young people annually in modern technology and vocational skills. The Chhattisgarh State AI Mission aims to provide artificial intelligence training to six lakh students.

Sai also highlighted a ₹100 crore startup fund under the Chhattisgarh Startup Promotion Policy to support youth-led innovation and entrepreneurship. Other initiatives include steps towards establishing institutions such as a forensic university campus, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT).

He added that the state had decided to provide 10% reservation in direct recruitment to the posts of police constable, forest guard and prison warder for eligible Agniveers from Chhattisgarh after completion of their four-year military service.

The government, he said, aims to ensure that young people have opportunities to develop their abilities and contribute to the state’s economic and social progress.

2,548 people donate blood under Seva Sankalp Abhiyan

A major highlight of the programme was the Raktadan Mahakumbh organised under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, in which 2,548 people voluntarily donated blood. The donors included 1,188 women.

Sai congratulated the participants, describing the turnout as an example of community participation, social responsibility and women’s contribution to public service.

He said voluntary blood donation was an important service that could help save lives and strengthen the spirit of collective responsibility.

Deputy Chief Ministers Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu, Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Revenue Minister Tank Ram Verma, Food Minister Dayaldas Baghel, Technical Education Minister Guru Khushwant Saheb, Rajya Sabha MP Laxmi Verma, MLA Purandar Mishra and other public representatives attended the event.
