Six young athletes from Surguja selected after six months of free residential training; programme shortlisted 15 children from an initial pool of 157 applicants

TFP Bureau, Raipur/Surguja, October 23, 2026: Six young archers from rural Chhattisgarh have secured places in state-level sports academies following six months of free residential training under an initiative supported by the Adani Foundation’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

The achievement highlights the potential of rural and tribal youth when provided with professional coaching, sports equipment and sustained guidance. Of the six selected athletes, five have secured admission to the Residential Archery Sports Academy at the State Archery Centre in Raipur, while one has been selected for the Late B.R. Yadav State Sports Training Centre in Bahatrai, Bilaspur.

The programme was launched in November 2025 in Salhi village under the CSR initiative of ATMSL and is managed by Shree Services. A total of 157 children from villages in the project area expressed interest in archery training. Following an assessment of their aptitude, 15 children—eight girls and seven boys—were selected for the programme.

The trainees received free residential facilities, modern sports equipment, technical instruction and coaching from experienced trainers. The effectiveness of the initiative became evident during a state-level selection trial held at Swami Vivekananda Stadium in Kota, Raipur.

The six selected athletes are Mahima Singh from Ghatbarra, Anjali Kushro from Salhi, Dileshwar Shyam from Basen, Anshu Warkade from Hariharpur, Satyam Tirkey from Tara and Priyanshu Vishwakarma from Fatehpur.

The five archers selected for the academy at the State Archery Centre will receive advanced training at a facility operated under the Chhattisgarh Government’s Department of Sports and Youth Welfare. Priyanshu Vishwakarma has secured a place at the state sports training centre in Bilaspur.

""Their selection is expected to provide access to more advanced coaching and opportunities to prepare for higher-level competitions. The programme also demonstrates how targeted training and access to sports infrastructure can help young people from rural and tribal communities pursue sporting careers.

A representative of the Adani Foundation said nurturing sporting talent in rural and tribal areas was among its priorities. The representative noted that the young athletes had delivered encouraging results within a short period and said efforts to identify and support promising talent would continue.

The Adani Foundation undertakes community development initiatives across education, healthcare, livelihoods, women’s empowerment, sports and community infrastructure. The success of the archery programme marks another step in its efforts to create opportunities for local youth and help them develop their abilities.
