2,323 surrendered Maoists trained in vocational skills; Niyad Nella Nar 2.0 has trained 1.11 lakh youths and facilitated 50,053 job placements across 10 districts

TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 28, 2026: Skill development and rehabilitation initiatives are opening new livelihood opportunities for young people in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division, helping communities affected by Naxalism move towards economic self-reliance and social reintegration.

Under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s leadership, the state government is focusing on vocational training, employment and self-employment opportunities for surrendered Maoists and families affected by Naxal-related violence. The objective is to support their rehabilitation, promote a dignified livelihood and strengthen the region’s transition towards peace and development.

According to official figures, 2,323 of the 7,567 Maoists who have surrendered have received skill training in various trades. Training has been conducted across districts including Bijapur, Dantewada, Sukma, Bastar, Narayanpur, Kanker, Kondagaon and Gariaband.

Training tailored to employment opportunities

The vocational courses include assistant electrician, mason, solar photovoltaic (PV) installer or Suryamitra, two-wheeler and four-wheeler repair technician, and sewing machine operator.

The programmes aim to equip participants with practical skills that can help them secure jobs or establish self-employment ventures.

In Bijapur, trained participants have found opportunities in garment manufacturing, masonry and independent tailoring. In Bastar district, some have entered the police force, private security, agriculture and labour-related sectors.

The government is also working to connect trained candidates with employment opportunities suited to their qualifications, skills and interests.""

Niyad Nella Nar 2.0 expands its reach

The Niyad Nella Nar (Your Good Village) Scheme 2.0 is emerging as an important component of development efforts in remote and Naxal-affected areas.

Under the scheme, 111,165 youths across 10 districts have received training, with 50,053 securing employment, according to the figures provided.

Among those covered are 1,267 surrendered Maoists who have completed training, while another 461 are currently undergoing training. The initiative has also trained 779 people affected by Naxal-related violence, with 191 more receiving training.

The programme seeks to extend livelihood opportunities to vulnerable families while improving their access to development initiatives and supporting their integration into the mainstream.

Rehabilitation centres become training providers

To strengthen vocational training within rehabilitation facilities, six of the eight rehabilitation centres in the Bastar division have been registered as Vocational Training Providers (VTPs). These centres are located in Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur, Sukma, Bastar and Kanker districts.

The registration is intended to facilitate structured, employment-oriented training for people living in these centres.

The government has also relaxed the Aadhaar requirement at the pre-training registration stage for eligible participants, including surrendered Maoists and members of families affected by Naxalism. Aadhaar remains mandatory before the final assessment, allowing eligible candidates to begin training without being excluded at the initial stage because of documentation issues.

Training facilities to reach remote blocks

Efforts are underway to establish a Skill Development Centre in every development block of the Bastar division so that rural and remote communities can access vocational training closer to home.""

In Bijapur district, training for 30 youths in the assistant mason course has already begun under the Skill Development Centre initiative.

Additionally, ₹7.80 crore has been allocated under a new budget head to expand residential training facilities in areas affected by Left-Wing Extremism.

Skill development as a route to lasting peace

The state government views vocational training and rehabilitation as more than employment initiatives, positioning them as part of a broader effort to build trust, improve livelihoods and support social reintegration in Bastar.

By equipping surrendered Maoists and families affected by violence with marketable skills, the programmes seek to create sustainable economic opportunities and encourage greater participation in the region’s development.

The long-term objective is to help communities move beyond the impact of conflict towards a future shaped by skills, employment, self-reliance and prosperity.
