President Droupadi Murmu to confer Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 awards in New Delhi on November 11; recognition highlights sanitation workers’ efforts and citizen participation

TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 7, 2026: Chhattisgarh has earned national recognition in urban sanitation, with Raipur, Bilaspur and Bilha selected for awards under the Swachh Survekshan 2025-26. President Droupadi Murmu will present the awards at a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on November 11.

The selection marks a significant achievement for the state and recognises the sustained efforts of urban local bodies, sanitation workers and citizens in improving cleanliness and waste management practices.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated the residents, elected representatives, officials and sanitation workers of the three cities, describing the recognition as a matter of pride for Chhattisgarh. He said the achievement reflected the dedication of sanitation personnel and the growing participation of citizens in keeping their neighbourhoods and public spaces clean.

Sai said the Swachh Bharat Mission, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had transformed cleanliness from a government programme into a public movement. He added that the state government was committed to improving sanitation facilities in every urban local body and making cities cleaner, healthier and more liveable.

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has formally communicated the selection to the state government. In its letter, Ministry Secretary Satendra Singh acknowledged the sanitation initiatives and public participation in the selected cities, noting the importance of collective efforts in achieving the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The 10th edition of Swachh Survekshan is being conducted under the theme, “A New Initiative for Cleanliness – Lend a Hand, Clean Together”, which emphasises shared responsibility and active citizen involvement in maintaining urban sanitation.

The November 11 ceremony will also recognise the contribution of sanitation workers and field-level personnel. The Ministry has invited safai mitras, sanitation inspectors, supervisors, engineers and other officials involved in implementing the Swachh Bharat Mission. Four representatives from each award-winning city will get an opportunity to receive the honour on stage. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal and Minister of State Tokhan Sahu will also attend the event.

Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration Minister Arun Sao said the national recognition of three cities would encourage other urban local bodies in Chhattisgarh to strengthen their sanitation systems. He stressed that cleanliness should become part of the regular functioning of cities and the daily lives of residents rather than remain limited to special campaigns or survey periods.

The state government has said the achievement will be used to further improve sanitation infrastructure, public awareness and citizen participation across urban areas. The broader objective is to extend the success of the three cities to other municipalities and build cleaner, healthier and more liveable urban communities across Chhattisgarh.
