TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 14, 2025: <\/strong>In a significant move to honour and support the cultural backbone of Chhattisgarh, the state government has approved an increase in monthly pension for financially struggling artists and litterateurs from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai.<\/p>\n

Calling the decision both “important and emotional”, CM Sai said, \u201cOur artists and litterateurs are the soul of society. Their contributions are invaluable. This pension hike is not just financial support\u2014it reflects the state’s deep respect and sensitivity towards them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The increase fulfills a promise made by the Chief Minister during the recent Budget Session and comes as an amendment to the Financial Assistance Scheme Rules-1986 under the Culture Department. The scheme, launched in 1986, originally offered monthly support ranging from Rs 150 to Rs 600. The last revision was made in 2012, raising the pension to Rs 2,000, with no increase in the past 12 years.<\/p>\n

Currently, 162 artists and litterateurs across the state are receiving this pension. With the hike, their annual support will rise from Rs 24,000 to Rs 60,000, a move expected to significantly ease their financial burdens and improve their quality of life.<\/p>\n

The enhanced pension will increase the state\u2019s annual expenditure from Rs 38.88 lakh to Rs 97.20 lakh, adding an additional financial burden of Rs 58.32 lakh. However, CM Sai emphasized that \u201cthis is not an expenditure but a proud responsibility\u201d and a reflection of inclusive and compassionate governance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis step will not only ensure financial stability for our cultural contributors but will also boost their self-respect and societal recognition,\u201d the Chief Minister added.<\/p>\n

The decision is widely seen as a reaffirmation of the government\u2019s commitment to preserving and nurturing the state\u2019s rich legacy of art, literature, and culture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
