TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 31, 2025:<\/strong> The State GST Department took strict investigative action against two Ambikapur-based trading firms suspected of large-scale tax evasion, following alarming discrepancies in their financial records and GST filings.<\/p>\n

On May 29, the GST team raided the premises of M\/s Bansal Trading Corporation after the firm\u2019s risk score on the central GST portal hit the maximum of 10, indicating high suspicion of tax evasion. Investigators found no proper accounting records or digital bookkeeping software like Tally at the business site, strengthening suspicions of deliberate concealment. Further probe revealed that from 2017-18 to 2024-25, the company\u2019s turnover exceeded Rs 158 crore, yet it reportedly paid zero tax in cash during this period.<\/p>\n

The investigation also uncovered irregularities in e-way bills for 2023-24, where goods worth Rs 29.50 crore were purchased but only Rs 50 lakh worth of supplies were officially recorded, indicating bogus input tax claims by selling false bills to other businesses. This fraudulent practice has caused significant revenue losses to both the Central and State governments.<\/p>\n

The businessman admitted errors and expressed willingness to pay Rs 40 lakh in tax voluntarily. However, the GST officials demanded submission of full accounting books and documents, which have not yet been provided.<\/p>\n

On May 30 and 31, the GST department also conducted investigations at M\/s Laxmi Traders, Ambikapur. Findings showed a turnover exceeding Rs 96 crore from 2017-18 to 2024-25, but negligible cash tax payments. Additionally, e-way bill data for 2023-24 indicated goods worth Rs 11 crore were purchased but only Rs 7 crore supplied, highlighting possible tax evasion.<\/p>\n

The businessman acknowledged the discrepancies and voluntarily paid Rs 17.55 lakh in tax. Notably, no prior action had been taken against this firm by the GST department.<\/p>\n
