TFP Bureau, Raipur, 4 June 2025: In a significant step toward strengthening the quality and equity of school education, the Chhattisgarh government has launched a comprehensive teacher and school rationalization initiative across the state. Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Right to Education Act 2009, the reform aims to address long-standing teacher shortages in remote and tribal areas while optimizing teaching resources in overstaffed urban schools.<\/p>\n
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai emphasized that the purpose of this rationalization is to ensure efficient use of teaching staff and improve the academic standards across both urban and rural regions. \u201cSchools with inadequate staff are being prioritized so that every child, irrespective of location, receives quality education,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In Rajnandgaon\u2019s Ghotiya School, only 3 lecturers were catering to 103 students, while a lack of faculty in Durg\u2019s Murmuda, Silitra, and Birejhar schools has adversely impacted student performance. \nIn Korba district, primary and middle schools now have at least two to three teachers each. Through a transparent counselling process, 287 assistant teachers, 147 secondary teachers, and 75 lecturers have been appointed in under-staffed schools in regions like Podi Uparoda, Pali, Kartala, and Katghora. These schools, many of which lacked subject-specific educators, will now benefit from the presence of qualified math and science teachers.<\/p>\n
\nIn Raipur\u2019s Dharsiwan block, several schools had more teachers than necessary. For instance, Nayapara Girls School had 7 teachers for just 33 students, while Ravigram School had 8 teachers for 82 students. These teachers are now being reassigned to underserved schools to balance the teacher-student ratio.<\/p>\n
\nSeven districts in the Bastar division\u2014Bastar, Bijapur, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Dantewada, Kanker, and Sukma\u2014are witnessing rationalization in 1,611 schools. This includes not only staff redistribution but also the integration of school campuses, better access to libraries, labs, and sports facilities, and administrative cost savings.<\/p>\n
\nIn Korea district, 81 assistant teachers, 33 teachers, and 7 lecturers have been placed in needy schools. Surguja has seen the reassignment of 283 assistant teachers, and in Janjgir district, counselling for 18 head teachers, 196 teachers, and 436 assistant teachers was conducted with transparency and adherence to seniority norms. Posting orders were issued immediately after selections.<\/p>\n
\nThis rationalization effort is not merely a logistical exercise but a transformative policy move that seeks to reduce educational disparities and raise the quality of education across Chhattisgarh.
