TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 16, 2025:\u00a0Chhattisgarh\u2019s Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai announced that the State Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved a modest power tariff increase of just 1.89% for the fiscal year 2025\u201326\u2014among the lowest in recent years. This decision, made after a transparent public hearing, has garnered broad support from households and industrial sectors alike.<\/p>\n
Domestic consumers will face a minimal rise of 10 to 20 paise per unit, while agricultural electricity rates will increase by 50 paise per unit. However, the government will absorb this cost via advance subsidies, ensuring that farmers do not incur any additional financial burden.<\/p>\n
Highlighting industrial support, CM Sai revealed tariff reductions for energy-intensive sectors such as mini steel plants, rolling mills, and ferro-alloy units to boost competitiveness and drive economic growth.<\/p>\n
On power quality, the Chief Minister reported that urban areas now enjoy 23.85 hours of electricity daily, rural areas receive 23.45 hours, and agriculture feeders supply 18 hours\u2014a figure among the highest nationally. Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses have impressively declined from 23.14% in 2020\u201321 to 13.79% in 2024\u201325, reflecting improved operational efficiency and infrastructure upgrades.<\/p>\n
The approved tariff structure includes significant capital investments: \u20b92,433 crore for transmission, \u20b93,977 crore for distribution, and \u20b92,992 crore for generation companies. Additionally, a \u20b915,800 crore, 1320 MW power plant is under construction in Korba, aimed at making Chhattisgarh power surplus and ensuring uninterrupted supply.<\/p>\n
Furthering green energy goals, the Chief Minister highlighted the PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme, under which households can avail up to \u20b978,000 in central subsidies for up to 3 kW solar plants, plus an additional \u20b930,000 state subsidy for 2 kW systems, enabling greater energy self-reliance.<\/p>\n
CM Sai also revealed that power sector MoUs worth over \u20b93 lakh crore have been signed, expected to spur energy production and create substantial employment.<\/p>\n
Concluding, he stated, \u201cOur priority is to deliver electricity that is not only uninterrupted but also affordable, high-quality, and sustainable.
