TFP Bureau, New Delhi, August 12, 2025 \u2013 The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project in Uttar Pradesh, a major infrastructure push for the state capital. The new corridor, stretching 11.165 km, will include 12 stations\u2014seven underground and five elevated\u2014and is set to transform public transport in the city\u2019s oldest and most densely populated areas.<\/p>\n
Once operational, Phase-1B will expand Lucknow\u2019s active metro network to 34 km, connecting key commercial hubs such as Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj, and Chowk; critical healthcare institutions like King George\u2019s Medical University; major tourist attractions including Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Bhool Bhulaiya, Clock Tower, and Rumi Darwaza; and the city\u2019s famed food streets.<\/p>\n
Officials say the project will dramatically improve mobility in areas where road congestion is at its worst, offering a faster, cleaner, and more reliable alternative to traditional transport. By reducing road traffic, Phase-1B is expected to cut travel times, improve road safety, and lower carbon emissions.<\/p>\n
The metro extension is also projected to fuel local economic activity by improving access to business districts, boosting tourism, and opening new opportunities for investment in previously underserved neighborhoods. Additionally, improved links to the airport, railway stations, and bus depots will enhance citywide connectivity, benefiting both residents and visitors.<\/p>\n
