TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 3, 2025: In a landmark move towards strengthening healthcare in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai today announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art super speciality hospital in Bastar. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Medical Education, Chhattisgarh, and Continental Hospital, Telangana, was signed at Mahanadi Bhawan in Raipur in the presence of CM Sai and Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal. The project, part of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), will provide advanced medical facilities to one of the state\u2019s most underserved regions.<\/p>\n
The \u20b9200 crore, 10-storey hospital will have a 240-bed capacity and offer advanced departments including Cardiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Urology, and Gastroenterology. Equipped with modern ICUs, OPDs, emergency services, and cutting-edge diagnostic machines, the facility will operate with a team of specialists providing treatment at government rates. Spread across 11 acres, the hospital is expected to emerge as a major healthcare hub for Bastar and surrounding states.<\/p>\n
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai described the project as a \u201chistoric milestone\u201d coinciding with Chhattisgarh\u2019s Silver Jubilee year. He noted that construction began nearly eight years ago but had stalled, and its completion now carried \u201cimmense significance.\u201d Referring to the timing of the agreement during Ganesh Mahotsav, the CM said, \u201cThis hospital will be a boon for the people of Bastar who were deprived of advanced medical facilities for decades. It will also serve as a lifesaver for security forces operating on the Naxal front, who earlier had to be airlifted to Raipur for treatment.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal echoed the CM\u2019s sentiments, stressing that bringing high-quality healthcare to tribal and remote regions was a priority.<\/p>\n \u201cEarlier, people had to travel to Raipur or Bilaspur for advanced treatment. Now, Bastar itself will have facilities on par with metro cities. This is not only a matter of pride for Chhattisgarh but also a reassurance for thousands of families who will no longer need to leave their homeland in search of medical care,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Health Secretary Amit Kataria detailed the financial structure of the project, explaining that the central government contributed \u20b9120 crore, the state government \u20b980 crore, with significant assistance from the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC). He added that the hospital was designed to meet future challenges, with cutting-edge medical equipment and robust critical care infrastructure.<\/p>\n Senior officials including Forest and Transport Minister Kedar Kashyap, Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary Subodh Kumar Singh, and representatives of Continental Hospital Hyderabad were present during the MoU signing. Continental Hospital Chairman Dr. Gurunath Reddy and his team expressed confidence that the collaboration would establish Bastar as a model for modern healthcare delivery in remote areas.<\/p>\n Healthcare experts and local representatives welcomed the initiative, calling it a \u201cnew dawn\u201d for Bastar. The hospital is expected not only to reduce dependence on Raipur and Bilaspur but also to provide relief to families across Chhattisgarh and neighboring states.
