Officials described this as one of the highest responses in recent years, underscoring the growing culture of compliance and the effectiveness of digital systems in handling large volumes of returns.<\/p>\n
In its statement, the department expressed gratitude to taxpayers and tax professionals for helping achieve the milestone. It also urged those who have not yet filed their returns for Assessment Year 2025-26 to do so at the earliest, noting that timely compliance ensures faster refunds and avoids penalties. \u201cMore than seven crore ITRs have been filed so far and still counting. The department has stressed that failure to meet the deadline could invite penalties, interest on dues, and restrictions on carrying forward certain losses.
