TFP Bureau, <\/i>Raipur, September 18, 2025: The Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme has witnessed a sharp rise in applications and installations across Chhattisgarh after the state government announced an additional subsidy on top of the central assistance. The double subsidy has not only doubled the pace of adoption but has also boosted confidence among households seeking affordable and sustainable power.<\/p>\n
According to official figures, applications under the scheme have surged to 58,500, with 6,500 rooftop solar systems already installed and work underway on another 17,000. The average monthly applications, which stood at around 1,600 before June 18, have now more than doubled to nearly 4,000. Similarly, installations that averaged just over 300 per month earlier have now risen to around 750. Officials expect this momentum to further accelerate as subsidy disbursements are processed quickly and citizens begin to experience the tangible benefits of reduced or even zero electricity bills.<\/p>\n
Initially, the central government had been providing subsidies of \u20b930,000 for one kilowatt, \u20b960,000 for two kilowatts, and \u20b978,000 for three kilowatts. In June this year, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai decided to supplement these subsidies through the state government, announcing an additional \u20b915,000 for one kilowatt and \u20b930,000 each for two and three kilowatts. This effectively raised the total support to \u20b945,000 for a one-kilowatt plant, \u20b990,000 for two kilowatts, and \u20b91,08,000 for three kilowatts, substantially reducing the financial burden on households.<\/p>\n
To further support adoption, the government also facilitated easy bank loans at just six percent interest, repayable over ten years. The margin money assistance through subsidized loans has made rooftop solar not just affordable but attractive for lower- and middle-income households who otherwise could not consider such an investment.<\/p>\n
The impact of these measures became visible soon after. On September 8, a total subsidy amounting to \u20b91.85 crore was transferred directly into the bank accounts of 618 beneficiaries in the state. Officials emphasized that moving forward, subsidies would be credited within one month of installation, ensuring that beneficiaries are not burdened with delays. This policy shift has played a significant role in increasing consumer confidence, encouraging more families to apply for the scheme.<\/p>\n
The attraction of free electricity has become a major driving force. Households that previously aimed to reduce electricity bills by half are now eager to achieve zero-cost electricity by fully adopting rooftop solar systems.
