TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 25, 2025:\u00a0In a major statewide initiative to strengthen maternal health, more than 40,000 pregnant women were screened in just two days under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA). The campaign, organized on September 24 and 25 as part of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare\u2019s \u201cHealthy Women, Empowered Family\u201d program, was held across 843 government health institutions in Chhattisgarh.<\/p>\n
The special drive, themed \u201cChhattisgarh\u2019s Mother, Everyone\u2019s Responsibility\u201d<\/em>, was aimed at reducing maternal mortality through early identification and treatment of high-risk pregnancies. Over 10,000 women were identified with high-risk conditions and brought under specialist supervision for continuous monitoring, ensuring timely management of complications.<\/p>\n The campaign provided free services including hemoglobin checks, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar tests, ultrasound scans, weight measurement, and nutritional counseling. More than 6,000 women underwent ultrasonography, a move that proved especially valuable for women living in remote and underserved areas.<\/p>\n Senior state and district officials inspected 187 sessions to ensure transparency, quality of services, and smooth delivery of benefits. Their presence underscored the government\u2019s seriousness in guaranteeing access to essential maternal care.<\/p>\n In Bilaspur district, the campaign set an exemplary benchmark as specialized medical services were made available at every primary health center with the active support of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI) and the Indian Medical Association (IMA). This collaborative effort ensured even rural women received access to specialist healthcare.<\/p>\n Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai hailed the success of the initiative, stressing that maternal and child health remains a top priority for his government. \u201cThe screening of more than 40,000 pregnant women and timely identification of over 10,000 high-risk cases prove that our health services are reaching even the remotest areas of Chhattisgarh. Safe motherhood is not just a health issue, it is the foundation of a strong family and a prosperous society,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal added that the results highlighted the government\u2019s commitment to women\u2019s health. \u201cThe identification of over 10,000 high-risk pregnancies in two days shows how timely screening and specialized care can drastically reduce maternal mortality. This program reflects our government\u2019s determination to safeguard the lives of mothers and children,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The PMSMA is normally conducted on the 9th and 24th of each month, but under the \u201cHealthy Women, Empowered Family\u201d campaign, the state government extended its scope with three additional days in September to ensure no pregnant woman was left behind.
