Funded under the MPLAD scheme, the project is estimated to cost <strong>Rs. 4.95 crore<\/strong> and aims to develop a skilled workforce for Bharat\u2019s growing semiconductor industry.<\/p>\n<p>The new laboratory will position IIT Bhubaneswar as a hub for semiconductor research, skilling, and innovation. It is expected to equip students and young professionals with industry-ready expertise in chip design, manufacturing, and packaging, supporting upcoming semiconductor facilities across the country.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative further strengthens the government\u2019s <strong>Make in India<\/strong> and <strong>Design in India<\/strong> missions, providing a catalyst for India\u2019s fast-expanding semiconductor ecosystem. India currently contributes around <strong>20% of global chip design talent<\/strong>, with students from 295 universities already using the latest Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools. So far, 28 student-designed chips from 20 institutes have been successfully taped out at SCL Mohali.<\/p>\n<p>IIT Bhubaneswar was chosen for the lab due to its existing semiconductor research infrastructure. The institute already hosts the <strong>Silicon Carbide Research and Innovation Centre (SiCRIC)<\/strong> and benefits from recent approvals under the <strong>India Semiconductor Mission<\/strong> for two major projects in Odisha\u2014an integrated facility for Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductors and an advanced 3D glass packaging facility. The NaMo Semiconductor Lab will complement these efforts by providing additional cleanroom facilities, R&amp;D capabilities, and advanced training for students.<\/p>\n<p>The laboratory will be equipped with essential tools and software required for semiconductor training, design, and fabrication.
