TFP Bureau, New Delhi, October 8, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ninth edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, Asia\u2019s largest telecom, media, and technology event, at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi on Wednesday. Addressing a gathering of global leaders, industry experts, and innovators, the Prime Minister said that India\u2019s rapid progress in the telecom and digital sectors reflects the power of the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and the strength of India\u2019s youth-led innovation ecosystem.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister said that India, which once struggled with 2G connectivity, now has 5G services in almost every district. \u201cDigital connectivity in India is no longer a privilege or luxury; it has become an integral part of every Indian\u2019s life,\u201d he remarked, adding that this transformation was made possible by the government\u2019s commitment to enabling indigenous innovation and digital inclusion.<\/p>\n
Highlighting India\u2019s technological strides, Modi announced that the country has successfully launched its own Made-in-India 4G stack, joining an elite group of five nations with this capability. \u201cThis is a major indigenous achievement that marks a big step towards digital self-reliance,\u201d he said. On the day of the launch, nearly one lakh 4G towers were activated across India, bringing over two crore people into the digital mainstream, many of them in remote areas.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister emphasized that the 4G stack is export-ready and will play a pivotal role in achieving India\u2019s 6G Vision 2030. He noted that the country\u2019s electronics production has grown sixfold since 2014, mobile phone manufacturing has increased 28 times, and exports have surged 127 times. The sector has created millions of jobs, with just one major smartphone company engaging 45 Indian suppliers and generating 3.5 lakh jobs.<\/p>\n
Referring to India\u2019s growing leadership in the global digital landscape, Modi said, \u201cWe have the world\u2019s second-largest telecom market, the second-largest 5G market, and the manpower, mobility, and mindset to lead.\u201d He pointed out that India\u2019s young and skilled workforce has become a powerful asset, with the fastest-growing developer population in the world.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister underlined that the new Telecommunications Act has replaced century-old laws to establish a modern legal framework that acts as a facilitator rather than a regulator. The reform, he said, has made approvals faster, simplified right-of-way permissions, and boosted investment confidence. He also stressed that cybersecurity has been made a priority, with stricter laws against cyber fraud and improved grievance redressal mechanisms.<\/p>\n
Encouraging global investors, Modi declared, \u201cThis is the best time to invest, innovate, and make in India!\u201d He said the government\u2019s focus on ease of doing business, democratic values, and stable policy environment has made India a trusted investment destination. He urged companies across mobile, telecom, electronics, and semiconductor sectors to view India as the next global hub for manufacturing and innovation.<\/p>\n
Modi also called upon Indian startups to seize opportunities created by global supply chain disruptions, particularly in semiconductor and telecom equipment production. \u201cWherever there are global bottlenecks, India has the opportunity to provide solutions,\u201d he asserted, adding that work is already underway on ten semiconductor manufacturing units in the country.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister praised the role of startups and innovators, noting that more than 500 startups are participating in IMC 2025. \u201cIndia will be empowered by the speed of startups and the scale of established players working together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Concluding his address, Modi expressed confidence that India\u2019s journey from 2G struggles to global 5G leadership symbolizes a nation determined to lead the next wave of digital transformation. \u201cWe have the capability, confidence, and conviction to shape the world\u2019s digital future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Organised jointly by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), India Mobile Congress 2025 is being held from October 8 to 11 under the theme \u201cInnovate to Transform.\u201d The event brings together over 1.5 lakh visitors, 7,000 global delegates, and 400 companies from more than 150 countries to showcase innovations in 5G, 6G, quantum communications, semiconductors, cybersecurity, AI, and green technology.<\/p>\n
