Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally assured him that New Delhi would stop importing Russian crude but said India had failed to follow through on that commitment.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe (Prime Minister Modi) told me, \u2018India will not buy oil from Russia.\u2019 But if they continue to do so, they will have to pay heavy tariffs,\u201d Trump said, adding that his administration was closely monitoring India\u2019s purchases of Russian oil. The President described India\u2019s continued trade with Moscow as an indirect way of funding Russia\u2019s military campaign in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
