TFP Bureau, New Delhi\/Sriharikota, November 2, 2025: The Indian Navy is set to take a major stride in strengthening its space-based communication network with the launch of its most advanced communication satellite yet \u2014 GSAT-7R (CMS-03). The satellite, developed indigenously by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), will be launched today from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.<\/p>\n
Weighing approximately 4,400 kilograms, GSAT-7R is the heaviest communication satellite ever built in India. Designed and developed entirely within the country, it incorporates several state-of-the-art indigenous components tailored specifically for naval operations. The new satellite will mark a significant upgrade to the Navy\u2019s existing communication infrastructure, providing high-capacity, secure, and reliable links across air, sea, and undersea assets.<\/p>\n
According to ISRO officials, GSAT-7R will offer comprehensive telecommunication coverage across the vast Indian Ocean Region (IOR). Its advanced transponders are designed to support high-speed voice, data, and video communication over multiple frequency bands, thereby enhancing real-time coordination between ships, submarines, aircraft, and maritime operations centres.<\/p>\n
Officials emphasized that GSAT-7R will not only strengthen the Indian Navy\u2019s operational efficiency and maritime domain awareness but also ensure uninterrupted connectivity during critical missions and joint operations. The enhanced bandwidth will facilitate faster data transfer, improved surveillance integration, and more secure communication channels \u2014 essential for maintaining situational awareness in dynamic maritime environments.<\/p>\n
The satellite\u2019s launch represents another milestone in India\u2019s pursuit of technological self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
