Once commissioned, <em>Ikshak<\/em> will be based at the Southern Naval Command and will play a crucial role in enhancing the Navy\u2019s hydrographic survey operations across the Indian Ocean region.<\/p>\n<p>Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd., Kolkata, <em>Ikshak<\/em> is a landmark achievement in India\u2019s shipbuilding history, reflecting over 80% indigenous content. The vessel stands as a shining example of the success of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the seamless collaboration between GRSE and Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Its construction underscores India\u2019s steady progress toward complete self-reliance in defense production.<\/p>\n<p>The name <em>Ikshak<\/em>\u2014meaning \u201cGuide\u201d in Sanskrit\u2014symbolically captures the vessel\u2019s mission and spirit. Designed to perform extensive coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys of ports, harbours, navigational channels, and maritime routes, <em>Ikshak<\/em> will generate crucial data for ensuring safe navigation and enhancing India\u2019s maritime safety infrastructure. The ship features a high-resolution multi-beam echo sounder, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), and four Survey Motor Boats (SMBs) for close-inshore and harbor surveys.
