TFP Bureau, New Delhi, December 8, 2025: Air travel across the country is rapidly returning to normal as the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) implements a series of urgent measures to stabilise airline operations in the wake of the recent IndiGo operational disruption. With coordinated efforts across airlines, airports, and regulatory bodies, passenger services have improved significantly within the last 48 hours.<\/p>\n
IndiGo, which faced large-scale cancellations and schedule irregularities this week, has shown notable recovery. Its flight operations climbed sharply from 706 on December 5 to 1,565 on December 6 and are expected to reach nearly 1,650 by the end of today. All other domestic airlines continue to operate at full strength, helping maintain overall network stability.<\/p>\n
Government Caps Airfares, Prevents Surge Pricing<\/strong><\/p>\n To shield passengers from sudden airfare spikes triggered by large-scale cancellations, the Ministry immediately introduced a temporary cap on fares across affected routes. Airlines have been directed to adhere strictly to the revised fare structure. This intervention has led to a visible decline in elevated fares, restoring affordability at a time of increased travel demand. Officials confirmed that fare levels have now stabilised across most key sectors.<\/p>\n Refunds, Rescheduling, and Dedicated Passenger Assistance<\/strong><\/p>\n Ensuring timely and transparent refunds has been a major focus area. IndiGo was instructed to complete all pending refunds for cancelled or severely delayed flights by 8:00 PM today. The airline has so far processed \u20b9610 crore in refunds. In addition, no fees are being charged for rescheduling travel impacted by the disruption.<\/p>\n Special passenger-support cells have been set up to proactively assist travellers needing help with refunds, rebooking, or itinerary changes. These units are functioning round the clock to ensure that concerns are addressed promptly and without inconvenience.<\/p>\n Large-Scale Baggage Recovery and Delivery Efforts<\/strong><\/p>\n To address widespread baggage separation issues caused by flight delays and cancellations, the Ministry has directed IndiGo to trace and return all pending baggage items within 48 hours. Continuous communication with passengers is mandatory until delivery is completed. As part of this effort, more than 3,000 pieces of baggage have already been returned to their owners across the country.<\/p>\n Airports Functioning Normally, Passenger Flow Smooth<\/strong><\/p>\n Airport Directors in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Goa have reported fully normal operations today. Passenger flow at check-in, security screening, and boarding points remains steady, with no excessive crowding or operational backlogs.<\/p>\n Enhanced on-ground support from airport operators and CISF has ensured timely assistance for passengers, while increased supervisory staff deployment has helped maintain smooth coordination between airlines and airport management teams.<\/p>\n 24\u00d77 Monitoring to Maintain Order and Assist Travellers<\/strong><\/p>\n MoCA\u2019s round-the-clock Control Room continues to serve as the central command hub working closely with airlines, airports, and ground staff. Passenger calls and grievances are being responded to promptly, while senior teams on the ground are overseeing crew rostering, operational planning, and adherence to service standards.<\/p>\n Officials stated that the Ministry will maintain strict oversight until complete normalcy is restored across all routes and airlines.<\/p>\n Government Reassures Public of Full Support<\/strong><\/p>\n The Ministry emphasised that passenger safety, comfort, and dignity remain the top priority of the Government of India.
