\nChhattisgarh marked a significant milestone in rural development on Saturday as Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai unveiled a coffee table book showcasing the achievements of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) in the state and simultaneously launched 10,000 livelihood pond works under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA).<\/p>\n
The coffee table book, released at the Chief Minister\u2019s office in the Vidhansabha, commemorates two years since the landmark decision taken in the first cabinet meeting of the present government to approve 18 lakh houses under PMAY-G. The publication documents the historic progress, key innovations and transformative impact of the rural housing scheme across Chhattisgarh.<\/p>\n
According to official figures, a total of 24.37 lakh houses have been approved under PMAY-G against a target of 26.27 lakh, while construction of 17.14 lakh houses has already been completed. Notably, nearly 8 lakh houses have been built in just the last two years, setting a new benchmark in the state\u2019s rural housing sector and significantly improving living conditions for lakhs of rural families.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, Chief Minister Sai launched 10,000 livelihood pond works, locally known as Aajeevika Dabri<\/em>, under MGNREGA. These ponds are scheduled to be completed by May 2026 and will be constructed on the private land of eligible beneficiaries, including those covered under PMAY-G. The initiative is expected to generate substantial rural employment while creating long-term assets that support irrigation, fisheries and allied agricultural activities, thereby enhancing the sustainable income of farmers and rural households.<\/p>\n As part of the programme, approval letters for livelihood ponds were also distributed to beneficiaries of the Janman Awas Yojana in Kabirdham district. Similar approvals were given under a special PMAY-G project for surrendered Naxalites and families affected by Naxal violence in Narayanpur district, underscoring the government\u2019s focus on social rehabilitation and mainstreaming through development-led initiatives.<\/p>\n Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, Principal Secretary of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department Smt.
