TFP Bureau,Raipur, December 29, 2025: Emphasising that child marriage poses a serious threat to the physical, mental and social development of children, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday said that eliminating the practice is a shared responsibility of society, administration and citizens alike. The Chief Minister made these remarks while flagging off the \u201cChild Marriage Free Jashpur\u201d awareness chariot from the premises of the Community Health Center in Farsabahar.<\/p>\n
The awareness chariot will travel extensively across urban centres as well as remote and interior villages of Jashpur district with the objective of sensitising people about the harmful consequences of child marriage and the importance of preventing it. The campaign seeks to foster a positive and informed social mindset and to strengthen community participation in eradicating this social evil.<\/p>\n
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that child marriage not only deprives children of education and health but also limits their opportunities for a dignified and secure future. \u201cPreventing child marriage is not merely the responsibility of the government or the administration; it is a collective moral duty of society. Every citizen must remain vigilant and speak up against such practices,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Chief Minister appealed to the public to immediately report any suspected cases of child marriage by calling the 1098 Child Helpline without fear or hesitation. He said timely information and intervention can save a child\u2019s future and ensure strict action against those violating the law.<\/p>\n
The campaign chariot has been equipped with informative displays and audio-visual messages highlighting the physical, psychological and social harms caused by child marriage. It will also disseminate information about the legally prescribed minimum age for marriage for boys and girls, as well as the provisions and penalties under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. Through door-to-door outreach, public announcements and interactions at village and ward levels, the initiative aims to create sustained awareness and behavioural change.<\/p>\n
Officials said the 1098 Child Helpline number has been prominently displayed on the chariot to ensure maximum visibility and accessibility. Upon receiving any information related to child marriage, a joint team constituted for child marriage prohibition will take immediate action, including verification, counselling and legal intervention wherever required. The helpline also provides assistance for other child-related issues, including abuse, neglect and exploitation.<\/p>\n
Several senior officials and public representatives were present on the occasion, including District Panchayat President Shri Salik Sai, Commissioner Shri Narendra Kumar Dugga, Inspector General Shri Deepak Kumar Jha, Collector Shri Rohit Vyas, Senior Superintendent of Police Shri Shashimohan Singh and Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. G.S. Jatra, along with officers and staff of the Health Department.<\/p>\n
