TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 12, 2026: Emphasising the need for modern, technology-driven communication in governance, Commissioner of the Public Relations Department and Joint Secretary to the Chief Minister, Dr. Ravi Mittal, on Monday said that Public Relations Officers (PROs) can significantly enhance the effectiveness of their work by creatively utilising all available media platforms, including print, electronic, digital and social media.<\/p>\n
Dr. Mittal was addressing the inaugural session of a two-day state-level skill enhancement workshop for Public Relations Officers on the theme \u201cNew Challenges in Public Relations\u201d, organised at the Samvad Auditorium in Nava Raipur. He said that PROs should focus on preparing exclusive, people-centric stories and ensure their wide dissemination across multiple platforms. Officers whose stories receive publication at the state and national levels, he added, would be felicitated as a form of encouragement and incentive.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the role of emerging technologies, Dr. Mittal said that artificial intelligence (AI) tools can help officers accomplish more work with less effort while maintaining authenticity and accuracy. \u201cThe modes of information dissemination are rapidly changing. New technologies are constantly emerging, and Public Relations Officers must adapt to them to ensure timely, credible and effective communication of government decisions and initiatives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Commissioner stressed the importance of staying updated with technological advancements to ensure that government policies, welfare schemes and development initiatives reach the public in a clear and engaging manner. He also underlined the need to provide internship opportunities to students from journalism schools and colleges within the Public Relations Department, enabling young aspirants to gain practical exposure while strengthening the department\u2019s outreach.<\/p>\n
In the inaugural session, senior officials including Additional Directors Shri Jawaharlal Dario, Shri Sanjeev Tiwari, Shri Umesh Mishra and Shri Alok Dev highlighted the critical role of clear, simple and timely communication in public service. They noted that effective communication is the cornerstone of public relations and is essential for building trust between the government and citizens. Participants were briefed on the objectives, structure and expectations of the two-day workshop, which aims to make public relations more modern, sensitive and result-oriented through improved news writing, media engagement and digital outreach.<\/p>\n
The first technical session of the workshop focused on reader-friendly writing and making government communication more engaging. Shri Shiv Dubey, Editor of Dainik Bhaskar<\/em>, guided participants on identifying key public-interest elements in government orders, using simple and accessible language, and crafting impactful headlines and lead paragraphs. He also elaborated on the structure of press releases, the effective use of quotations, and the importance of balanced and timely media communication, particularly during crisis situations.<\/p>\n The second session was conducted by Shri Vikalp Shukla, News Editor of All India Radio, who provided insights into the functioning of television media. He explained how government schemes and programmes can be presented as compelling visual stories, the essentials of TV coverage, the importance of concise soundbites, and the use of fact sheets for accurate reporting.<\/p>\n The third session focused on social media and AI-based digital tools.
