Chhattisgarh\u2019s rapid housing construction hailed as national model; VB-GRAM G mission, \u2018Mor Gaon Mor Pani\u2019 campaign to fast-track village development<\/em><\/h4>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 31, 2026: Union Minister for Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday said that creating employment opportunities and building self-reliant Gram Panchayats remain central to the government\u2019s rural development agenda, asserting that the Viksit Bharat \u2013 Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Gramin (VB-GRAM G) would significantly accelerate economic and social progress in villages. He noted that nearly one-and-a-half times higher budgetary approvals have been provided for the mission to strengthen livelihood generation and grassroots development.<\/p>\n

The Union Minister made these remarks while reviewing the functioning of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department at a high-level meeting held at Mahanadi Bhavan in Raipur. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, Chief Secretary Shri Vikas Sheel, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Subodh Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary Panchayat and Rural Development Ms. Niharika Barik Singh, PWD Secretary Dr. Kamalpreet Singh and senior officials from both the state and the Centre.<\/p>\n

Praising Chhattisgarh\u2019s remarkable pace of rural housing construction, Shri Chouhan described the state as a role model for others, highlighting that over 8 lakh houses have been built in just two years, the highest completion rate in the country. Officials informed that approvals have been granted for 24.58 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), out of which 17.60 lakh houses have already been completed. Under the PM Janman scheme, 18,373 houses have been completed from 33,246 sanctioned units, while 3,416 houses have been approved under a special housing project for surrendered Naxalites.<\/p>\n

The Union Minister also lauded the \u2018Mor Gaon Mor Pani\u2019 mega campaign being implemented village by village, terming it a significant contribution towards water conservation and sustainable rural infrastructure. He directed officials to further expand rainwater harvesting initiatives, noting that such systems have already been installed in more than 1.5 lakh houses across the state.<\/p>\n

Emphasising women\u2019s economic empowerment, Shri Chouhan instructed officials to strengthen self-help group networks and increase the number of \u2018Lakhpati Didis\u2019, stating that over 8,000 women in Chhattisgarh have already achieved the milestone of earning an annual income exceeding \u20b91 lakh. He further directed that wage payments under government schemes must not be delayed under any circumstances and called for expedited recruitment to vacant posts under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission.<\/p>\n

During the review, the Union Minister also assessed the progress of major schemes including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission (BIHAN), Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana, PM Janman and RCPLWEA initiatives. Officials presented data on skill development and infrastructure improvements, noting that more than 5,000 rural masons have been trained and innovative initiatives such as QR code-based monitoring, \u201cDidi ke Goth\u201d centres and Chhattis Kala programmes are being implemented to enhance transparency and community participation.<\/p>\n

Shri Chouhan also directed the state administration to prepare a special strategy for completing pending development projects in the Bastar division, stating that the region had remained distanced from mainstream growth for years and would now witness focused and decisive intervention for holistic development under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai welcomed the Centre\u2019s continued support and said the coordinated approach between the Union and state governments would further strengthen rural infrastructure, employment generation and livelihood opportunities, paving the way for sustainable and inclusive development across Chhattisgarh\u2019s villages.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
