Scheme offers surcharge waiver and major rebates on pending electricity dues; subsidy of \u20b98.79 crore transferred to beneficiaries under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana<\/em><\/h4>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 12, 2026: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday launched the \u2018Bijli Bill Bhugtaan Samadhan Yojana 2026\u2019, a scheme aimed at providing major relief to electricity consumers burdened with pending power bills. The scheme was launched at a function held at the auditorium of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College Hospital in Raipur.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the Chief Minister distributed certificates to beneficiaries and urged consumers across the state to take maximum advantage of the scheme to clear their outstanding electricity dues.<\/p>\n

During the programme, Sai also transferred \u20b98.79 crore as subsidy to 2,931 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which promotes rooftop solar power generation in households.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said electricity has become a basic necessity in modern life and is essential for households, agriculture, business and education. However, many families, especially from low and middle income groups, often face financial difficulties in paying their electricity bills on time. As a result, surcharge penalties accumulate and the total outstanding amount becomes difficult for consumers to repay.<\/p>\n

To address these issues, the state government has introduced the Samadhan Yojana to provide substantial relief to consumers and help them clear their pending dues.<\/p>\n

Sai said the scheme will benefit consumers who have been unable to pay their electricity bills for a long time. Under the programme, more than 28.42 lakh consumers across Chhattisgarh are expected to receive relief amounting to over \u20b9757 crore.<\/p>\n

He said the initiative particularly aims to support low-income households, middle-class families and agricultural consumers who have been struggling with accumulated electricity dues.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister noted that many consumers were unable to pay their electricity bills during the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a rise in outstanding dues. Keeping these challenges in mind, the government designed the Samadhan Yojana to reduce the financial burden on consumers and make it easier for them to settle their accounts.<\/p>\n

Under the scheme, three categories of consumers have been identified for relief. These include inactive consumers whose electricity connections remained unused as of March 31, 2023; active consumers with single-bulb domestic connections; and active non-government domestic and agricultural consumers.\"\"<\/p>\n

Consumers falling under these categories will receive a complete waiver of the surcharge component on their pending electricity bills. In addition, they will be eligible for a rebate of up to 75 per cent on the principal outstanding amount, depending on the category.<\/p>\n

To avail the benefit of the scheme, consumers will be required to register under the programme and deposit at least 10 per cent of their outstanding dues at the time of registration. The remaining amount can then be paid in convenient instalments without any additional surcharge in the following months.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister said the scheme will remain in force until June 30, 2026, and urged consumers to register early and benefit from the relief measures offered by the government.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the broader development in the power sector, Sai said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, electricity connectivity has been significantly expanded across the country since 2014. Nearly 18,000 villages that had remained without electricity since Independence have now been electrified.<\/p>\n

He added that Chhattisgarh has also emerged as a major power-producing state. Nearly 30,000 megawatts of electricity is currently being generated in the state using its own resources, ensuring reliable supply to consumers and supporting industrial growth.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister also referred to the growing response to the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in the state. Around 36,000 consumers have already registered under the scheme, which encourages households to install rooftop solar panels and generate their own electricity.<\/p>\n

He described the involvement of women\u2019s self-help groups as solar panel vendors as a positive and empowering step that is creating livelihood opportunities while promoting renewable energy.<\/p>\n

Sai also appealed to citizens to use electricity responsibly and avoid unnecessary consumption in their homes. He said energy conservation is essential for sustainable development and efficient use of resources.<\/p>\n
