CM chairs OBC Advisory Council meet; focus on hostels, scholarships and inclusive development<\/em><\/h4>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 18,2026: <\/strong>The State OBC Advisory Council on Wednesday held a key meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, where the state government announced plans to establish a separate directorate for the welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and discussed major initiatives including construction of new hostel facilities.<\/p>\n

The proposed directorate is aimed at streamlining policies and ensuring focused implementation of welfare schemes for OBC communities, which comprise nearly 95 castes and sub-groups across Chhattisgarh.<\/p>\n

Focus on Inclusive Development<\/h3>\n

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister reiterated the government\u2019s commitment to the educational, social and economic upliftment of OBCs and minority communities. He stressed that development efforts would be carried out while preserving the social and cultural identity of these groups.<\/p>\n

Sai said the government is working on a comprehensive framework to ensure inclusive growth, with targeted interventions in education, skill development and livelihood generation.<\/p>\n

Institutional Mechanisms Strengthened<\/h3>\n

To accelerate development initiatives, the state has already set up the OBC & Minority Development Department along with statutory bodies such as the OBC Commission and various community-specific development boards.<\/p>\n

These include the Lauhshilp Development Board, Rajakkar Development Board and Telghani Development Board, which focus on the socio-economic advancement of traditional occupational groups within the OBC category.<\/p>\n

Major Budgetary Provisions<\/h3>\n

Officials informed that the state budget includes significant allocations for OBC welfare. A provision of \u20b9150 crore has been made for post-matric scholarships, which will be disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to ensure transparency and timely support.<\/p>\n

In addition, the government is expanding hostel infrastructure for OBC students. Currently, 55 departmental hostels have been approved, and new post-matric hostels have been sanctioned in districts such as Raigarh, Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Dhamtari, Raipur and Jashpur.<\/p>\n

A new Mukhyamantri Shiksha Sahayog Yojana is also being introduced to provide financial assistance to students who are unable to secure hostel accommodation, ensuring that economic constraints do not hinder access to education.<\/p>\n

Coaching and Skill Development Initiatives<\/h3>\n

The government is also strengthening support for competitive examination preparation. Schemes have been introduced to provide coaching for exams such as engineering, medical, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), CGPSC, SSC and banking services, aimed at increasing representation of OBC candidates in professional and \u0938\u0930\u0915\u093e\u0930\u0940 sectors.<\/p>\n

Suggestions from Council Members<\/h3>\n

During the meeting, members of the Advisory Council offered several suggestions related to education, infrastructure and welfare schemes, which the government said would be considered for future policy decisions.<\/p>\n

Ministers and Officials Present<\/h3>\n

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, Backward Class and Minority Development Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Revenue Minister Tank Ram Verma, Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Rajwade, School Education Minister Gajendra Yadav, Finance Minister O. P. Choudhary, Chief Secretary Vikas Sheel and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Subodh Singh, along with other public representatives and senior officials.<\/p>\n
