TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 21,2026: In a unique fusion of sports, culture and tourism, the Chhattisgarh government is set to host the \u2018Bastar Heritage Marathon 2026\u2019 on March 22, an ambitious event that promises to be the largest running spectacle ever organised in the state.<\/p>\n

Flagged off from the historic Lalbagh Ground in Jagdalpur and culminating at the iconic Chitrakote Waterfalls\u2014often referred to as the \u201cNiagara of India\u201d\u2014the marathon will take participants through some of the most scenic and culturally rich landscapes of the Bastar region.<\/p>\n

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai described the event as a landmark initiative that goes beyond a sporting competition. \u201cThis marathon is a celebration of Bastar\u2019s heritage, natural beauty and the spirit of its people. It is an effort to connect the nation with Bastar,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A Run Through Nature and Culture<\/h3>\n

Set against the theme \u201cBastar Runs, the Nation Connects,\u201d the marathon is designed to showcase the region\u2019s lush forests, tribal heritage and vibrant traditions while promoting fitness and community participation.<\/p>\n

Participants will traverse a picturesque route dotted with dense greenery, \u0917\u094d\u0930\u093e\u092e\u0940\u0923 landscapes and glimpses of Bastar\u2019s rich cultural ethos, offering an experience that combines endurance with exploration.<\/p>\n

Officials say the event is also aligned with national campaigns such as Fit India Movement and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, reflecting a broader vision of integrating fitness with cultural exchange.<\/p>\n

Multiple Categories, Inclusive Participation<\/h3>\n

The marathon will feature four categories\u201442 km (Full Marathon), 21 km (Half Marathon), 10 km and a 5 km Fun Run\u2014ensuring participation from professional athletes as well as casual runners and local residents.<\/p>\n

A total prize pool of \u20b925 lakh has been announced to attract competitive participation, while the registration fee has been kept nominal at \u20b9299. In a move to encourage grassroots involvement, participants from the seven districts of Bastar division have been allowed free registration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis inclusivity will ensure that local youth, who are at the heart of this initiative, get a platform to showcase their talent,\u201d an official said.<\/p>\n

Extensive Arrangements for Safety and Experience<\/h3>\n

Authorities have put in place elaborate arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe experience for participants. Refreshment points with water and energy drinks will be set up at regular intervals along the route, while medical teams and emergency services will remain on standby.<\/p>\n

Efficient route management systems have also been deployed to handle the large number of participants expected to take part in the event.<\/p>\n

Adding to the festive atmosphere, organisers have planned engaging activities such as Zumba sessions, live DJ performances and cultural showcases, turning the marathon into a celebration rather than just a race.<\/p>\n

Each participant will receive a finisher\u2019s medal, an e-certificate and professional photographs, enhancing the overall experience and appeal of the event.<\/p>\n

Boost to Tourism and Local Economy<\/h3>\n

The state government sees the marathon as a strategic step towards positioning Bastar as a major tourism and sports destination. By attracting athletes, fitness enthusiasts and tourists from across the country, the event is expected to generate economic activity and create opportunities for local communities.<\/p>\n

From artisans and tribal artists to small businesses and hospitality providers, a wide spectrum of stakeholders is likely to benefit from the increased footfall.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur resolve is to make Bastar a premier tourism and sports destination in the country. Such events will generate employment and open new avenues for local youth,\u201d Sai said.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister noted that the initiative draws inspiration from the vision of Narendra Modi, who has consistently emphasised fitness, cultural pride and domestic tourism.<\/p>\n

By combining sports with heritage, the Bastar Heritage Marathon seeks to create a national platform where participants not only compete but also immerse themselves in the unique identity of the region.<\/p>\n

Calling it a \u201chistoric opportunity,\u201d Sai invited athletes, tourists and citizens from across India to be part of the event. \u201cThis is not just a run; it is a chance to experience Bastar\u2014its nature, its culture and its vibrant spirit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
