Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao described the event as a \u201cgame-changer\u201d that will provide a substantial boost to the state\u2019s sports ecosystem and infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a press conference, Shri Sao said that while events such as the Surguja Olympics and Bastar Olympics had earlier provided platforms at the regional level, hosting the Khelo India Tribal Games elevates Chhattisgarh to the national stage. He noted that the \u0906\u092f\u094b\u091c\u0928 will not only enhance sports infrastructure but also offer invaluable exposure to athletes, enabling them to compete alongside top-level performers and gain competitive experience.<\/p>\n<p>The multi-sport event will witness participation from 30 states and Union Territories, with around 3,800 athletes competing across nine disciplines. Competitions will be held in Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Surguja, with a total of 106 gold medals at stake. Athletics will account for the highest number of gold medals at 34, followed by swimming (24), wrestling (18), weightlifting (16), and archery (10). Team events such as hockey and football will also feature prominently, while traditional sports like mallakhamb and kabaddi will be showcased as demonstration events.<\/p>\n<p>Athletics events are scheduled in Jagdalpur, wrestling competitions in Surguja, and major team events including hockey and football will be conducted in Raipur. The \u0906\u092f\u094b\u091c\u0928 is expected to continue until April 3, drawing widespread attention from sports enthusiasts across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Prominent sportspersons, including hockey Olympians Shri Dilip Tirkey and Smt. Salima Tete, along with national sprint record-holder Shri Animesh Kujur, welcomed the initiative, stating that the Games would provide a strong platform for tribal youth to pursue professional careers in sports. They emphasised that such a national-level championship would inspire young athletes and help identify and nurture talent from remote and underrepresented regions.<\/p>\n<p>Shri Tirkey highlighted that the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to transform India into a sporting nation is being strengthened through initiatives like the Khelo India Tribal Games. He noted that sports can play a transformative role in improving the lives of tribal youth, offering them opportunities to represent the country at higher levels.<\/p>\n<p>Participation from the host region is also significant, with over 100 athletes from states including Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Assam set to compete. Notably, the event maintains a near-equal representation of male and female athletes, reflecting the emphasis on gender equality in sports.<\/p>\n<p>Athletes have been selected through trials conducted by national sports federations, and their performances will be closely monitored by coaches from the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Experts believe this structured selection and monitoring process will help in identifying future champions and strengthening India\u2019s talent pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>National athlete Shri Animesh Kujur remarked that many parts of the country still lack adequate access to sports facilities, and initiatives like these are crucial in bringing tribal youth onto a unified platform.
