Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya calls launch historic; Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai says state committed to nurturing sports talent<\/em><\/h4>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 26,2026: Chhattisgarh created sporting history on Wednesday evening with the grand inauguration of the country\u2019s first Khelo India Tribal Games 2026<\/strong> at the Science College Ground in Raipur, marking a significant step toward promoting sports among tribal youth across India.<\/p>\n

The mega sporting event was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in the presence of Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, who attended the ceremony as the chief guest. The national event, being held from March 25 to April 3, is taking place across three major venues in the state \u2014 Raipur, Bastar and Surguja.<\/p>\n

The games have brought together around 2,500 athletes from 30 states and Union Territories who are competing in nine sporting disciplines. The presence of prominent sports personalities, including Dilip Tirkey and Olympic weightlifting medalist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, added prestige to the inaugural ceremony.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai described the hosting of the first-ever Khelo India Tribal Games in Chhattisgarh as a matter of great pride for the state. He said the government is fully committed to providing a larger platform for sports talent and strengthening sports infrastructure across the state. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya for choosing Chhattisgarh as the venue for this historic event.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the enthusiasm for sports among tribal communities, the Chief Minister noted that large-scale events such as the Bastar Olympics and Surguja Olympics had witnessed participation from lakhs of people, reflecting the region\u2019s deep sporting culture. He also pointed out that several former Naxalites had returned to the mainstream and participated in sports competitions under rehabilitation initiatives, symbolizing a positive transformation in the region.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister further stated that under the \u201cdouble-engine government,\u201d efforts to promote sports have gained momentum. The state government has launched the Mukhyamantri Khel Utkarsh Mission<\/strong>, with a budget provision of \u20b9100 crore aimed at developing sports infrastructure and identifying promising athletes. Residential academies under the Khelo India initiative are already operational in Raipur and Bilaspur, while integrated sports complexes are being developed in Jashpur, Raigarh and Raipur.<\/p>\n

To encourage excellence in sports, the state government has also announced attractive incentives for athletes, including \u20b93 crore for Olympic gold medalists, \u20b92 crore for silver medalists, \u20b91 crore for bronze medalists and \u20b921 lakh for players selected to represent India in the Olympics.\"\"<\/p>\n

During his address, the Chief Minister also highlighted that the country\u2019s second-largest cricket stadium in Nava Raipur has been named after tribal freedom fighter Veer Narayan Singh, describing him as a symbol of pride and inspiration for the state.<\/p>\n

Welcoming athletes from across the country, he said Chhattisgarh is not only known as the maternal home of Lord Ram but is also a land of tribal courage and sacrifice. He recalled the contributions of tribal heroes such as Veer Narayan Singh, Gundadhur and Gend Singh, whose legacy continues to inspire the people of the region.<\/p>\n

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya termed the launch of the Khelo India Tribal Games from Chhattisgarh as historic and said the initiative would continue in the coming years to promote sports among tribal communities across the country. He emphasized that sports are not only about winning medals but also about building discipline, fitness and a balanced lifestyle.<\/p>\n

Referring to the expansion of sports culture under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Minister said national campaigns such as the Khelo India and Fit India movements have given a new direction to sports in the country. He added that with more than 65 percent of India\u2019s population being young, the country holds immense sporting potential, and talent is now emerging from rural and tribal regions as well.<\/p>\n

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao described the inauguration of the games during the auspicious Navratri festival in the land associated with Lord Ram as a moment of great fortune. He said the tribal communities of Chhattisgarh have always inspired the nation through their courage, dedication and resilience.<\/p>\n

Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam also termed the event historic, stating that the Khelo India Tribal Games would serve as a strong platform for tribal youth to showcase their talent at the national and international levels.<\/p>\n

Several public representatives and senior officials attended the inauguration ceremony, including Culture Minister Rajesh Agrawal, School Education Minister Gajendra Yadav, Rajya Sabha MP Laxmi Verma, Raipur Mayor Meenal Choubey and Chief Secretary Vikas Sheel, along with sports enthusiasts, athletes and dignitaries from across the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
