Improved Security and Regular Bus Services Open New Avenues for Education, Healthcare and Livelihoods in Maoist-Affected Areas<\/em><\/h3>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, April 8,2026:<\/strong> A significant transformation is unfolding in the remote and once-isolated regions of Sukma district, where improved security conditions and enhanced rural connectivity are reshaping daily life. Villages that for years remained cut off due to Maoist activity and challenging terrain are now steadily integrating with nearby towns, thanks to the state government\u2019s Mukhyamantri Gramin Bus Yojana.<\/p>\n

For decades, residents of interior forested areas in Sukma lived within confined geographical boundaries. Travel beyond their immediate surroundings often involved walking 8 to 10 kilometres through dense forests to access the nearest motorable road. Uncertainty, fear and irregular transport meant that even routine activities such as visiting a hospital, attending school, or selling farm produce required immense effort and planning.<\/p>\n

However, with a marked decline in Maoist activity and strengthened security arrangements, mobility has become safer and more predictable. This improved law and order situation has laid the foundation for development initiatives to take root, with rural transport emerging as a critical enabler.<\/p>\n

At the heart of this change is the Mukhyamantri Gramin Bus Yojana, which has extended bus services to previously underserved and conflict-affected areas. The scheme now connects several interior villages to key routes, ensuring reliable and affordable transportation.<\/p>\n

In the Konta block of Sukma district, villages such as Lakhapal, Keralapenda and Nagaram are now directly linked to Dornapal through regular bus services. What once required hours of walking has been reduced to a routine bus journey, saving both time and physical hardship for villagers.<\/p>\n

Residents recall the difficulties of earlier times. Shri Kudam Joga of Lakhapal said that reaching Chintalnar on foot was once unavoidable, and missing the lone bus on the main road often meant losing an entire day. Important tasks\u2014whether related to government work, medical appointments or market visits\u2014would remain incomplete. Today, with buses operating consistently on the Dornapal\u2013Nagaram route, villagers can plan their travel with confidence and return home the same day.<\/p>\n

Under the scheme, buses now operate near villages including Polampalli, Kankerlanaka, Chintagufa, Chintalnar, Lakhapal, Keralapenda and Nagaram. This network has significantly improved access to Dornapal and other commercial centres. Women, elderly residents, school and college students, daily wage labourers and small traders are among the primary beneficiaries.\"\"<\/p>\n

The impact extends beyond convenience. Improved connectivity has enabled students to attend schools and colleges more regularly, reducing dropout risks. Patients can access primary health centres and district hospitals without delay. Farmers and forest produce collectors can transport goods to markets more efficiently, improving their incomes.<\/p>\n

Shri Mohanranjan of Irkampalli noted that the bus service has strengthened ties between remote villages and the mainstream economy. He observed that easier travel has encouraged small-scale trade and provided villagers with greater exposure to employment opportunities and government schemes.<\/p>\n

According to Sukma Collector Shri Amit Kumar, ten buses are currently operating under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Bus Yojana in remote and previously Maoist-affected areas. In addition, five \u201cHakkum Mail\u201d buses are also running regularly to supplement connectivity. The state government is providing operational subsidies to ensure the financial viability of these services and has granted a three-year exemption on road tax to operators under the scheme.<\/p>\n

Officials say the initiative is not merely about transport but about restoring confidence and normalcy. Reliable bus services have encouraged residents to move freely for work, education, healthcare and social engagement\u2014activities that were once restricted by insecurity and isolation.<\/p>\n

The Mukhyamantri Gramin Bus Yojana now stands as a symbol of broader change in Sukma district. As safer roads replace fear and regular bus links replace uncertainty, the region is steadily moving toward stability, development and self-reliance.
