TFP Bureau, Raipur, April 11,2026: The first phase of Census 2027\u2014the House Listing and Housing Census\u2014will be conducted across Chhattisgarh from May 1 to May 30, 2026, as part of the nationwide population enumeration exercise undertaken by the Government of India.<\/p>\n

Officials said the month-long exercise will gather detailed information on all residential and non-residential structures across the state, including their physical condition, usage and the availability of essential amenities. The data collected during this phase will form a crucial foundation for planning development programmes and public welfare schemes in both rural and urban areas.<\/p>\n

Self-Enumeration Facility Introduced<\/h3>\n

In line with the Digital India initiative, the census process this year will include a self-enumeration option aimed at making participation more convenient for citizens. Residents who wish to provide their household information digitally will be able to do so through a dedicated online portal between April 16 and April 30, 2026.<\/p>\n

Families completing the self-enumeration process will receive a unique Self-Enumeration ID. This ID must be preserved and presented to the enumerator when they visit the household during the official census period. After verifying the details submitted online, the enumerator will complete the data submission process.<\/p>\n

Officials said the digital option is expected to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the census while encouraging wider public participation.<\/p>\n

Extensive Data on Housing and Amenities<\/h3>\n

During the House Listing and Housing Census phase, enumerators will collect comprehensive information about each building and household. This includes the number and condition of buildings, the type of house construction\u2014whether kutcha, pucca or semi-pucca\u2014and the purpose for which the structure is used, such as residential, commercial or mixed use.<\/p>\n

Enumerators will also gather information on the number of households residing in each building, as well as key details related to living conditions and infrastructure facilities.<\/p>\n

Data will be collected on essential amenities such as access to drinking water, sanitation and toilet facilities, electricity connections, cooking fuel used by households, and availability of communication services including internet connectivity.<\/p>\n

Authorities said the information will help policymakers assess the status of housing and infrastructure across the state and design more targeted schemes for urban development, rural housing, sanitation programmes and expansion of basic services.<\/p>\n

Enumerators to Visit Every Household<\/h3>\n

During the 30-day enumeration period, trained census staff will visit each household to record the required information. Enumerators will carry authorised identity cards, which residents can verify before sharing their details.<\/p>\n

Officials have appealed to citizens to cooperate with census personnel and provide accurate and complete information. Families that have already submitted their data through the self-enumeration portal will need to share their Self-Enumeration ID with the visiting enumerator for verification.<\/p>\n

Data to Remain Confidential<\/h3>\n

Authorities emphasised that all information collected during the census will remain strictly confidential and will be used only for statistical and policy-planning purposes. Personal details of individuals or households will not be disclosed publicly.<\/p>\n

The census data plays a vital role in government planning by helping authorities assess the real status of population distribution, housing conditions and access to essential services. The findings are used to guide the formulation of development schemes, infrastructure projects and welfare programmes across the country.<\/p>\n

Monitoring and Grievance Redressal<\/h3>\n

To ensure smooth implementation of the census exercise, monitoring mechanisms will be set up at district, state and national levels. Control rooms will be established to oversee the process, while senior officials will conduct regular inspections to review progress.<\/p>\n

A dedicated helpline and an online grievance redressal system will also be made available to address queries or complaints related to the enumeration process.<\/p>\n
