State administration intensifies rescue and medical response as ex gratia announced by Centre, state government and company<\/em><\/h3>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, April 15, 2026: The Chhattisgarh government has intensified relief and rescue operations following the devastating boiler explosion at the Vedanta power plant in Singhitarai village of Sakti district, which claimed the lives of 17 workers and left 19 others injured.<\/p>\n

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has been in constant contact with district officials, closely monitoring the situation and directing authorities to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured. The Chief Minister has been regularly speaking with Sakti Collector Amrit Vikas Topno and Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur to review the progress of rescue operations and medical arrangements.<\/p>\n

The explosion, which occurred on Tuesday at the industrial facility operated by Vedanta Limited, triggered panic inside the plant as workers scrambled to escape the blast site. District administration officials rushed to the spot soon after the incident and launched immediate rescue operations with the support of emergency services.<\/p>\n

Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal has also been actively reviewing the medical response and coordinating with hospital authorities to ensure proper care for the injured workers. Medical teams were mobilised quickly and the injured were shifted on priority to hospitals in nearby Raigarh.<\/p>\n

Most of the injured workers have been admitted to hospitals including Fortis Hospital, Raigarh Medical College and Apex Hospital in Raigarh, while those in critical condition have been referred to Kalda Hospital in Raipur for advanced treatment. Authorities have barricaded the accident site and deployed security personnel to maintain order as investigations begin.<\/p>\n

Sakti Collector Amrit Vikas Topno stated that, following the Chief Minister\u2019s directions, all efforts are being made to provide the best medical facilities to the injured. The administration has also begun the process of identifying the deceased workers and contacting their families. After post-mortem procedures, the bodies are being transported to their native places by ambulance along with immediate financial assistance.<\/p>\n

The district administration has also taken a humanitarian step by ensuring that injured workers and those affected by the incident will continue to receive their wages during their recovery period without the requirement of attendance. Compensation arrangements were finalised after discussions held late Tuesday night, officials said.\"\"<\/p>\n

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the accident, and an investigation team is expected to inspect the site soon. Teams of the State Disaster Response Force have also been deployed to assist with ongoing rescue operations.<\/p>\n

The state government has announced an ex gratia of \u20b95 lakh for the families of the deceased and \u20b950,000 each for the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also approved financial assistance of \u20b92 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the next of kin of each deceased worker and \u20b950,000 for those injured.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the company management of Vedanta Limited has announced additional financial support for the victims\u2019 families. The company said it will provide \u20b935 lakh and employment support to the families of the deceased workers, while those injured will receive \u20b915 lakh in compensation. The company also assured that wages will continue during treatment and counselling support will be provided to the affected families.<\/p>\n

According to the Sakti Superintendent of Police, the accident affected a total of 36 workers. Seventeen workers lost their lives while 19 others are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals.<\/p>\n

Among the deceased, five workers were from Chhattisgarh, two from Bihar, three from Jharkhand, five from West Bengal and two from Uttar Pradesh. Authorities have identified the victims as Ritesh Kumar (Bihar), Amrit Lal Patel (Chhattisgarh), Thanda Ram Lahre (Chhattisgarh), Tarun Kumar Ojha (Jharkhand), Aqib Khan (Bihar), Susant Jana (West Bengal), Abdul Karim (Jharkhand), Udhav Singh Yadav (Chhattisgarh), Sheikh Saifuddin (West Bengal), Pappu Kumar (Uttar Pradesh), Ashok Parahiya (Jharkhand), Manas Giri (West Bengal), Brijesh Kumar (Uttar Pradesh), Rameshwar Mahilange (Chhattisgarh), Kartik Mahto (West Bengal), Nadeem Ansari (Chhattisgarh), and Shibnath Murmu (West Bengal).<\/p>\n

The state government has assured that strict action will be taken against those found responsible after completion of the inquiry, while relief and rehabilitation efforts for the affected families continue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
