Over 51,000 enumerators deployed for statewide house-listing and numbering exercise<\/em><\/h3>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 2, 2026:<\/strong> The first phase of the Digital Census 2027<\/strong> has commenced in Chhattisgarh, marking the start of house-listing and house-numbering operations across the state. The extensive exercise began on May 1 and will continue until May 30, with more than 51,000 personnel visiting households to gather vital data.<\/p>\n

A total of 51,300 enumerators and 9,000 supervisors<\/strong> have been deployed for the operation. The teams are conducting door-to-door surveys to collect detailed information about houses and households as part of the nationwide census programme.<\/p>\n

First Fully Digital Census Exercise<\/h3>\n

Officials said the census will be conducted entirely in digital mode for the first time<\/strong>, representing a significant technological shift in data collection. Enumerators are using a dedicated mobile application to record responses to 33 questions<\/strong> related to housing conditions, household amenities, and available assets.<\/p>\n

Strict Administrative Measures<\/h3>\n

The administration has adopted a strict approach to ensure smooth conduct of the census work. Notices have been issued to 44 employees of the Raipur Municipal Corporation<\/strong> for remaining absent from duty. Authorities said action has been initiated under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948<\/strong> and the Chhattisgarh Civil Services Conduct Rules<\/strong>. Officials warned that obstructing or refusing census-related duties is considered a punishable offence.<\/p>\n

Early Achievements and Field Enthusiasm<\/h3>\n

The campaign has already witnessed encouraging participation in several areas. In a notable example, an enumerator from **Gatam village in Tokapal Tehsil of Bastar district completed the assigned enumeration task on the very first day despite challenging conditions.<\/p>\n

On the opening day, district collectors and municipal commissioners across the state visited field locations to review operations and motivate census workers.<\/p>\n

The state also recorded a strong response to the Self-Enumeration initiative<\/strong>, with 149,862 households<\/strong> completing their entries online through the census web portal between April 16 and April 30.<\/p>\n

Assurance of Data Security<\/h3>\n

The Directorate of Census Operations<\/strong> has assured citizens that all personal information collected during the census will remain strictly confidential as per the provisions of the Census Act, 1948. Officials clarified that the data cannot be used in tax matters, police investigations, or court proceedings, and personal details cannot be accessed even through the Right to Information Act<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
