TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 8, 2026: A grand statewide mass marriage ceremony will be organised across Chhattisgarh on May 8 under the Chief Minister Kanya Vivah Yojana, with more than 2,300 couples set to tie the knot in ceremonies being held simultaneously in districts throughout the state.<\/p>\n

The large-scale social initiative is being conducted under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and is aimed at supporting economically weaker families while promoting social harmony and dignity in society. Officials said all administrative preparations for the event have been completed, with district administrations making final arrangements for the ceremonies.<\/p>\n

The celebrations will witness traditional wedding rituals conducted according to the customs and beliefs of different communities. Couples from Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Buddhist faiths, as well as participants from particularly vulnerable tribal groups, will take part in the ceremonies, reflecting the state\u2019s cultural diversity and spirit of communal harmony.<\/p>\n

According to officials, venues have been prepared in every district with elaborate arrangements for seating, decoration, and traditional wedding rituals. The melodious sound of the shehnai will accompany the ceremonies, creating a festive atmosphere as families and local communities gather to bless the newlyweds.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the initiative, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the programme represents more than just a wedding ceremony. He described it as a celebration of equality, dignity and unity in society. The Chief Minister noted that in the past, the marriage of daughters often caused financial stress for economically weaker families, but the Chief Minister Kanya Vivah Yojana has helped transform that anxiety into confidence and hope.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe scheme ensures that the benefits of sensitive and responsive governance reach the last person in society,\u201d the Chief Minister said, adding that the state government remains committed to supporting families and empowering women through such welfare initiatives.<\/p>\n

The mass marriage programme has previously witnessed remarkable participation. On February 10, 2026, a record-breaking state-level ceremony was organised at the Science College Ground in Raipur, where 6,412 couples entered into wedlock in the presence of the Chief Minister. During that event, the Chief Minister personally blessed 1,316 couples, while thousands of other couples from different districts joined the ceremony virtually.<\/p>\n

The historic event earned international recognition and was recorded in the Golden Book of World Records, bringing pride to the state and highlighting the scale of the social initiative.<\/p>\n

Under the Chief Minister Kanya Vivah Yojana, each newly married couple receives financial assistance of \u20b935,000 from the state government. The assistance is intended to provide newlyweds with a strong financial start as they begin their married life. In addition to the financial support, the government also ensures arrangements for wedding essentials and necessary household items for the couples.<\/p>\n

The programme is being implemented by the Department of Women and Child Development under the guidance of Minister Laxmi Rajwade. The department has coordinated with district administrations to ensure comprehensive arrangements, including venue management, food and drinking water facilities, health services, and security arrangements.<\/p>\n

Officials said special attention has been given to ensure that every couple and their family members experience a dignified, organised and hassle-free environment during the ceremonies.<\/p>\n

With thousands of couples set to begin their new lives together, the statewide celebration on May 8 is expected to not only provide social support to families but also reinforce the message of unity, equality and collective celebration across Chhattisgarh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
