Nursing Sister\u2019 to be called Senior Nursing Officer, while Staff Nurse designation changed to Nursing Officer<\/em><\/h3>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 12, 2026: On the occasion of International Nurses Day, Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Health Minister of Chhattisgarh, announced a significant change in the designations of the nursing cadre in recognition of the vital contribution made by nurses to the healthcare system.<\/p>\n

Under the new decision, the designation \u201cNursing Sister\u201d<\/strong> will now be replaced with \u201cSenior Nursing Officer,\u201d<\/strong> while \u201cStaff Nurse\u201d<\/strong> will henceforth be known as \u201cNursing Officer.\u201d<\/strong> The move has been introduced as a mark of respect and recognition for the dedication and service of nurses working in hospitals across the state.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made during a special programme organised at the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital to celebrate International Nurses Day. The event witnessed the participation of a large number of nursing officers, nursing students, hospital administrators and healthcare staff.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, Jaiswal emphasised that nurses play an indispensable role in patient care and form the backbone of the healthcare system. He noted that nursing professionals work tirelessly, often around the clock, with dedication and compassion to ensure the well-being of patients.<\/p>\n

The Health Minister said the service rendered by nurses reflects the highest ideals of humanity and empathy in the medical profession. Recalling the critical role played by nursing staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, he said nurses continued to perform their duties even under extremely challenging circumstances, demonstrating exceptional commitment and a selfless spirit of service.\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cIn healthcare, a nurse\u2019s role is similar to that of a mother. Nurses care for patients with the same compassion and concern that a mother shows to her family,\u201d he said while acknowledging their contribution.<\/p>\n

Jaiswal also expressed gratitude to Vishnu Deo Sai, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, for his efforts to strengthen healthcare services in the state. He said the government is continuously working to improve medical infrastructure and implement several long-pending administrative reforms aimed at improving the functioning of the health sector.<\/p>\n

During the programme, the minister also felicitated several nursing officers for their dedication and service. Among those recognised were Senior Nursing Officers Dr. Reena Rajput, Neelima Sharma, Ranjana Singh Thakur, Suman Dewangan, Komeshwari Navrange, Pragati Satpute, Sheetal Soni and Namita Daniel, whose work in patient care was widely appreciated.<\/p>\n
