TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 27,2026: Stressing that \u201ccitizens\u2019 convenience is paramount,\u201d Public Works Department (PWD) Secretary Mukesh Kumar Bansal on Tuesday directed officials to accelerate the construction of bridges, railway overbridges (ROBs), and flyovers across the state while ensuring that all projects are designed in line with future infrastructure needs.<\/p>\n
Chairing a high-level review meeting at \u2018Nirman Bhawan\u2019 in Nava Raipur, Mr. Bansal assessed the progress of ongoing bridge and flyover projects being executed by the Bridge Zone of the department. He instructed officials to expedite work to ensure uninterrupted connectivity, smooth traffic flow, and greater public convenience across urban and rural areas.<\/p>\n
The PWD Secretary emphasized that proposals for bridges and flyovers should take into account current traffic volume, connectivity of approach roads, nearby existing structures, and long-term future requirements before execution. Engineer-in-Chief V.K. Bhatpahari and Chief Engineer of the Bridge Zone S.K. Kori, along with Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, and Sub-Divisional Engineers from all bridge divisions, attended the meeting.<\/p>\n
During the review, Mr. Bansal instructed officials to complete land acquisition for approved projects on a \u201cmission mode\u201d basis. He directed field officers to immediately inform the government about hurdles such as forest clearance, land acquisition issues, and shifting of electric poles so that higher-level administrative intervention could be ensured for timely resolution.<\/p>\n
He further ordered that all processes following administrative approval \u2014 including technical sanction, land acquisition, and tendering \u2014 must be completed within a fixed timeline to facilitate the early commencement of construction work. Directions were also issued for the immediate mutation of acquired land required for infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n
The Secretary asked officials to submit a priority list of projects sanctioned during the financial years 2025-26 and 2026-27 by June 10. Detailed project estimates for all approved works have been sought by July 31.<\/p>\n
Mr. Bansal also instructed that pending tender processes be completed within the next one to two months so that work can begin immediately after the monsoon season. He directed officials to ensure monthly payments to contractors after inspection of executed works and ordered the immediate release of pending payments for all works completed up to April 30.<\/p>\n
Taking a strict stance on project monitoring, the PWD Secretary directed Executive Engineers and SDOs to maintain detailed records of all ongoing works and regularly inspect project sites. He instructed officers to closely supervise contractors and ensure completion of projects within stipulated deadlines.<\/p>\n
Warning against delays and negligence, Mr. Bansal said immediate action should be initiated under departmental rules against contractors found guilty of laxity or undue delay in project execution.
