Between January 2025 and May 2026, the Board issued notices to 94 industrial units and ordered production stoppage or electricity disconnection for 82 industries found flouting environmental regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The Board\u2019s Raipur Regional Office has been carrying out regular monitoring and surprise inspections of industries responsible for air and water pollution. Action is being taken under the provisions of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, and the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.<\/p>\n<p>The enforcement drive covered industries located in Raipur, Baloda Bazar-Bhatapara, Dhamtari, Mahasamund and Gariaband districts. During the review period, environmental compensation amounting to \u20b92.40 crore was imposed on 96 industries for various violations.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate crackdown on improper transportation practices, the Board levied environmental compensation of \u20b951.02 lakh on 136 industries and institutions for transporting raw materials, finished products and solid waste without mandatory tarpaulin covering. Additionally, two industrial units were fined \u20b912 lakh for unauthorized disposal and dumping of fly ash.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Action Against Single-Use Plastic Violations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Board also intensified enforcement of the ban on single-use plastic under the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021, and the Chhattisgarh Plastic and Other Non-Biodegradable Materials Rules, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Between January 2025 and May 2026, production at one industrial unit was halted, environmental compensation of \u20b987,500 was imposed, and a court complaint was filed against the violator. Another industry faced a production shutdown order along with a penalty of \u20b96.25 lakh, while two additional units were directed to stop production for violating plastic waste regulations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Raipur Air Quality Shows Improvement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Board reported encouraging progress in Raipur\u2019s air quality, attributing the improvement to continuous monitoring and stricter enforcement measures. To track ambient air quality, Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) equipped with display boards are operational at four locations across the city, while six stations function under the National Ambient Air Monitoring Programme (NAMP).<\/p>\n<p>According to official data, Raipur\u2019s average Air Quality Index (AQI) improved from 65.38 in 2024 to 62.86 in 2025, registering an improvement of nearly 4 per cent. The city\u2019s AQI remains in the \u201cSatisfactory\u201d category, indicating positive outcomes from ongoing pollution-control initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Officials of the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board stated that strict action against industries violating environmental norms will continue.
