Consumers under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana will soon receive credits in their electricity bills for surplus solar power supplied to the grid, with the buyback rate for 2025-26 awaiting final regulatory approval.<\/em><\/h3>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 28,2026: Rooftop solar consumers in Chhattisgarh are set to receive a financial boost as surplus electricity generated under the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana will soon be purchased by the power distribution company at a fixed rate and adjusted as credits in future electricity bills.<\/p>\n

The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company (CSPDCL) has initiated the process of adopting the buyback rate for surplus solar power determined by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for the 2025-26 financial year.<\/p>\n

According to officials from the state power companies, the proposed rate has been submitted to the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (CSERC) for approval. Once the Commission grants its approval, consumers will receive the value of surplus electricity exported to the grid as a rebate in their subsequent electricity bills.<\/p>\n

Explaining the mechanism, officials said the net metering system first adjusts the electricity generated by a rooftop solar plant against the consumer’s monthly power consumption. Any excess electricity not consumed is automatically exported to the grid, where it accumulates in the consumer’s account throughout the financial year.<\/p>\n

At the end of the financial year, the accumulated surplus units are purchased by the power distribution company at the approved buyback rate. The total value of the exported electricity is then credited to the consumer’s account and reflected as an adjustment in future electricity bills.<\/p>\n

The power company also clarified that while the accounting of electricity units starts afresh at the beginning of every financial year, consumers do not lose the value of their surplus generation. Although the carried-forward units no longer appear in the new billing cycle, their monetary value remains protected and is adjusted against future bills.<\/p>\n

Officials said the buyback and billing process under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is being implemented in accordance with the regulations of the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission, ensuring transparency and providing direct financial benefits to thousands of rooftop solar consumers across the state.<\/p>\n

The initiative is expected to encourage greater adoption of rooftop solar systems by enabling households not only to reduce their electricity bills but also to earn credits from surplus clean energy supplied to the state’s power grid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
