\u00a0Chhattisgarh State Power Company clarifies that the revised late payment surcharge mechanism is more consumer-friendly, with charges now calculated only for the actual number of days a bill remains unpaid instead of a full month’s penalty.<\/em><\/h4>\n

TFP Bureau,Raipur, June 28,2026:<\/strong> The Chhattisgarh State Power Company has clarified that the revised late payment surcharge system introduced under the regulations of the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (CSERC) is intended to provide financial relief to electricity consumers by ensuring a fair and transparent method of calculating delayed payment charges.<\/p>\n

The clarification comes in response to reports circulating on social media and in sections of the media claiming that consumers would face a “double burden” or be subjected to daily interest charges on delayed electricity bill payments. The power company described these reports as misleading and factually incorrect.<\/p>\n

According to company officials, the earlier system imposed a late payment surcharge of 1.5 per cent for an entire month even if a consumer delayed payment by just one or two days after the due date. This often resulted in consumers paying disproportionately high penalties for minor delays.<\/p>\n

Under the revised mechanism, the surcharge will now be calculated at 0.04 per cent per day, meaning consumers will be charged only for the exact number of days their payment is delayed.<\/p>\n

Officials explained that if a consumer pays the bill just one day late, the surcharge will be only 0.04 per cent instead of the previous 1.5 per cent monthly charge. Even in the case of a delay of 30 days, the total surcharge will amount to 1.2 per cent, which remains lower than the 1.5 per cent levied under the earlier system.<\/p>\n

The power company said the new formula makes the billing process more transparent and equitable while reducing the financial burden on consumers who make short-term delays in bill payments.<\/p>\n

Appealing to consumers and media organisations to avoid spreading misinformation, the company reiterated that the revised system has reduced\u2014not increased\u2014the late payment surcharge. It urged people to rely on verified information to prevent unnecessary confusion among electricity consumers across the state.<\/p>\n

Officials added that the consumer-friendly reform reflects the state’s efforts to simplify electricity billing and ensure greater fairness in the implementation of power sector regulations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
