State Congress alleges the Centre has failed to pass on the benefits of falling international crude oil prices to consumers, urging an immediate reduction in petrol, diesel, CNG and LPG prices.<\/em><\/h3>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 27,2026:<\/strong> The Chhattisgarh Congress on Friday demanded an immediate reduction in the prices of petrol, diesel, CNG and domestic LPG, alleging that the Central Government has failed to pass on the benefits of declining international crude oil prices to consumers.<\/p>\n

Addressing a press conference, State Congress Communication Department Chairman Sushil Anand Shukla claimed that crude oil prices in the international market have fallen significantly\u2014from around 116 dollars per barrel to nearly 70 dollars per barrel\u2014but retail prices of petrol and diesel in the country have not witnessed a corresponding reduction.<\/p>\n

Shukla alleged that the Centre and petroleum companies were earning substantial profits through the continued high retail prices of fuel. He claimed that consumers were effectively paying more than \u20b935 per litre in combined margins and taxes, while alleging that the Union Government had earned nearly \u20b932 lakh crore from petrol and diesel over the past decade. He further claimed that oil marketing companies had earned around \u20b947,000 crore in profits during the last six months.<\/p>\n

The Congress leader accused the Central Government of increasing fuel prices rapidly whenever international crude prices rose, but failing to reduce prices despite the subsequent decline in global oil rates. He alleged that the government’s policies were benefiting petroleum companies while adding to the financial burden on consumers.<\/p>\n

According to Shukla, lower petrol and diesel prices would reduce transportation costs, agricultural input expenses and industrial production costs, ultimately helping bring down the prices of essential commodities and providing relief from inflation.<\/p>\n

He further alleged that the government’s economic policies were focused on revenue generation rather than providing relief to the public, citing GST and increases in the prices of fuel, LPG and railway fares as examples.<\/p>\n

Demanding immediate intervention, Shukla urged the Central Government to reduce the prices of petrol, diesel, CNG and cooking gas cylinders, saying the benefits of lower international crude oil prices should be passed on to consumers to ease inflationary pressures.<\/p>\n

The Centre has maintained in the past that domestic fuel pricing is influenced by multiple factors, including international crude prices, exchange rates, taxes, refining costs and marketing expenses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
