Teachers and district coordinators from all 33 districts trained to mentor students in developing scientific solutions for local challenges under the theme ‘Science and Innovation for Sustainability’.<\/em><\/h3>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 17,2026: The Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology (CCOST), in collaboration with the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), organised a one-day state-level orientation workshop on Friday to prepare district coordinators and resource teachers for the 32nd National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC)-2026.<\/p>\n

Held at the Regional Science Centre in Raipur, the workshop brought together district coordinators and resource teachers from all 33 districts of the state. The programme was organised by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Chhattisgarh, with the objective of equipping mentors to guide students in developing scientific projects based on local issues and real-life challenges.<\/p>\n

The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Sonmoni Borah, Principal Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, and Prashant Kavishwar, Director General of the Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology and Regional Science Centre.\"\"<\/p>\n

The National Children’s Science Congress is one of the country’s premier platforms for promoting scientific thinking among students aged 10 to 17 years. The programme encourages participants to identify local problems, apply scientific methods for research, analyse data and develop practical, innovation-driven solutions. Projects selected at the block, district and state levels eventually compete at the national stage.<\/p>\n

Addressing the workshop, scientists and academic experts stressed the importance of this year’s theme, “Science and Innovation for Sustainability,” saying that nurturing scientific temper, research aptitude and innovation among students is essential for sustainable development.<\/p>\n

Among those who addressed the participants were Dr. J.K. Rai, Scientist ‘E’ and State Coordinator, Dr. A.K. Pathak, Scientist ‘D’, Dr. Amit Dubey, Scientist ‘D’, State Academic Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) Keshav Kant Sahu, and senior botanist Dr. V.K. Kanungo.<\/p>\n

Dr. Rai provided detailed guidance on the structure of the National Children’s Science Congress, including eligibility criteria, project formulation, research methodology, documentation, presentation techniques and the evaluation process. He urged teachers to encourage students to develop projects rooted in local issues rather than limiting themselves to textbook concepts.<\/p>\n

Technical sessions focused on the Congress theme and its sub-themes, covering waste management through the R5 approach\u2014Reduce, Reuse, Recover, Redesign and Recycle\u2014along with energy conservation using the E4 model of Explore, Experiment, Enhance and Evolve. Experts also discussed water conservation, rainwater harvesting, recycling and the application of traditional Indian knowledge systems in food, agriculture and healthcare for sustainable development.\"\"<\/p>\n

Prof. (Dr.) Keshav Kant Sahu emphasised that scientific education should go beyond classroom learning by encouraging research, data collection, analysis and solution-oriented thinking. He urged teachers to ensure maximum student participation in line with the objectives of the national Mission LiFE initiative.<\/p>\n

Speaking on environmental sustainability, Dr. V.K. Kanungo highlighted the importance of adopting the R5 principles in everyday life to reduce waste and conserve natural resources. He encouraged teachers to motivate students to integrate these concepts into their scientific projects.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ayush Khare, Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur, delivered a session on the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in the energy sector. He explained how AI is improving energy efficiency, resource management and clean energy systems, and encouraged students to explore innovation-based research in this emerging field.<\/p>\n

Prof. Namita Brahme highlighted the significance of renewable energy, energy-efficient technologies and conservation practices in achieving sustainable development. She encouraged schools to promote activities such as energy audits, solar cooker projects and LED efficiency studies, while inspiring students to become “Energy Ambassadors” in their communities.<\/p>\n

Officials said the orientation programme has equipped district coordinators and resource teachers with the necessary knowledge to mentor young researchers effectively and ensure wider participation in the National Children’s Science Congress-2026. Outstanding child scientists selected through the state-level competition will represent Chhattisgarh at the national event, showcasing research projects that address local challenges through scientific innovation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
