World-famous 75-day festival dedicated to Goddess Danteshwari to showcase Bastar\u2019s unique tribal traditions, rituals and cultural heritage<\/h2>\n

Raipur, August 12, 2026:<\/strong> The world-famous Bastar Dussehra festival began on Wednesday on the auspicious occasion of Hareli Amavasya with the traditional \u2018Pat Jatra\u2019 ritual at the Danteshwari Temple complex in Bastar. Dedicated to Goddess Danteshwari, the presiding deity of Bastar, the festival is known for its distinctive tribal traditions and rituals and will continue for 75 days.<\/p>\n

During the inaugural Pat Jatra ceremony, traditional functionaries, including Manjhi-Chalki, Member-Membrin, Pujari, Patel, Naik-Paik and sevadars, will participate in the \u2018Thurlu Khotla\u2019 ritual. The ceremony involves forging the traditional tools required for the construction of the ceremonial chariot.<\/p>\n

The Bastar Dussehra Committee has appealed to traditional functionaries, villagers and citizens to participate in the rituals and festivities.<\/p>\n

Major rituals scheduled from September to October<\/h3>\n

According to the festival schedule, the \u2018Deri Gadai\u2019 ritual will be held on September 24, followed by the \u2018Kachhangadi\u2019 ritual on October 10. \u2018Kalash Sthapana\u2019 will take place on October 11, while the \u2018Jogi Bithai\u2019 ritual is scheduled for October 12.<\/p>\n

Navratri worship and chariot circumambulation will be conducted daily from October 13 to 18. The \u2018Bel Puja\u2019 will be performed at 11 am on October 18, followed by \u2018Maha-Ashtami Puja\u2019 and \u2018Nisha Jatra\u2019 on October 19.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Kumari Puja\u2019, \u2018Jogi Uthai\u2019 and \u2018Mavali Parghav\u2019 rituals will be held on October 20. The \u2018Bhitar Raini\u2019 ritual and chariot circumambulation are scheduled for October 21, followed by the \u2018Bahar Raini\u2019 ritual and chariot circumambulation on October 22.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Muria Darbar to mark a key festival event<\/h3>\n

On October 23, the \u2018Kachhan Jatra\u2019 will be held in the morning, while the historic \u2018Muria Darbar\u2019 will take place in the afternoon. The festival will formally conclude with the \u2018Kutumb Yatra\u2019 and farewell rituals for village deities on October 24.<\/p>\n

The farewell ceremony for the \u2018Mavali Mata\u2019 palanquin will be held on October 27, bringing the principal ceremonial cycle of the 75-day festival to an end.<\/p>\n

The Bastar Dussehra is distinguished from conventional Dussehra celebrations by its deep-rooted tribal traditions and does not centre on the burning of Ravana. Its elaborate rituals, chariot traditions, community participation and worship of Goddess Danteshwari make it one of the most distinctive cultural festivals of Chhattisgarh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
