TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 21, 2026: Chhattisgarh has witnessed a significant rise in property registrations in women\u2019s names following the state government\u2019s decision to provide a 50 percent rebate on registration fees for properties registered in the names of women.<\/p>\n
According to data from the Department of Registration and Stamps, 30,720 documents were registered in women\u2019s names between May 6 and July 27, 2026, compared with 20,319 during the corresponding period in 2025. This represents an increase of approximately 51 percent in registrations.<\/p>\n
The initiative, undertaken under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, is aimed at promoting women\u2019s economic empowerment by encouraging greater ownership of property and strengthening their financial security.<\/p>\n
Departmental figures show that 63,174 sale deeds were registered between May 6 and July 27, 2025, of which 20,319 had women as buyers. Women\u2019s share stood at 32 percent during the period.<\/p>\n
In the corresponding period in 2026, the number of registered sale deeds increased to 74,424, with women accounting for 30,720 transactions. Their share consequently rose to 41 percent, marking a nine-percentage-point increase in one year.<\/p>\n
Officials said the trend indicates growing acceptance of property ownership by women and is expected to strengthen their financial security and role in household decision-making.<\/p>\n
The impact of the registration fee concession has been reported across the state. Around 75 percent of Chhattisgarh\u2019s districts recorded an annual increase of more than 20 percent in property registrations in women\u2019s names.<\/p>\n
Significant growth has been recorded in districts including Janjgir-Champa, Balod, Koriya, Raipur and Kanker.<\/p>\n
In Raipur, registrations in women\u2019s names increased from 4,220 to 6,038, while Bilaspur recorded a rise from 1,894 to 2,958. In Janjgir-Champa, the number increased from 1,239 to 2,302 during the comparative period.<\/p>\n
The 50 percent concession in registration fees has also provided substantial financial relief to citizens. Between May 6 and July 27, 2026, the total direct financial benefit provided through the concession amounted to \u20b976,95,33,689, or approximately \u20b976.95 crore.<\/p>\n
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said women\u2019s empowerment must go beyond welfare measures and include economic independence, security and equal participation in decision-making.<\/p>\n
He said the 50 percent concession on registration fees was introduced with the objective of encouraging families to register property in women\u2019s names. According to him, ownership of property can provide women with greater financial security and confidence while strengthening their position in family and society.<\/p>\n
The Chief Minister said the state government would continue to focus on the dignity, self-reliance and economic empowerment of women.<\/p>\n
Finance and Commercial Tax (Registration) Minister O.P. Choudhary said the sharp increase in property registrations in women\u2019s names reflects a positive change in the social and economic mindset of families in the state.<\/p>\n
He said the 50 percent registration fee concession has encouraged families to make women property owners, thereby providing them with greater economic security.<\/p>\n
The government initiative has thus linked women\u2019s empowerment with asset ownership and financial independence.
