At ICFAI University convocation, Governor asks students to use technology responsibly; 504 receive degrees<\/h3>\n

TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 12, 2026: Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka on Saturday cautioned students against excessive use of digital technology, describing digital addiction as a major concern in contemporary society.<\/p>\n

Addressing the third convocation of ICFAI University as the chief guest, Mr. Deka said students belonged to an era of the internet and advanced technology, unlike his generation that depended largely on books, teachers, pencils and chalk for education.<\/p>\n

While acknowledging the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence, he said technology should be used judiciously and primarily for the benefit of society. He urged students to make constructive use of digital tools while remaining conscious of their adverse effects.<\/p>\n

Mr. Deka also referred to nuclear energy, climate change and microplastics as some of the major challenges facing the world. Development in the 21st century, he said, must therefore be accompanied by greater attention to sustainability and its wider social and environmental consequences.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Focus on action and purpose<\/h3>\n

Drawing on the Bhagavad Gita’s message of Karma Yoga, the Governor told the graduating students that action was central to life. He advised them to concentrate on their studies, work and goals rather than be distracted by the opinions of others.<\/p>\n

Knowledge, he said, was an asset that could not be taken away, and students should listen to their conscience and pursue the right course. He urged them to draw up a roadmap for their lives and work towards their goals in a planned manner.<\/p>\n

Mr. Deka said the knowledge and degrees acquired by students should be used to serve society. The purpose of science, technology and innovation, he said, should ultimately be to improve human life.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Call to develop Chhattisgarh as education hub<\/h3>\n

Referring to Chhattisgarh’s mineral wealth, particularly its iron ore reserves, Mr. Deka said the State had an important role in the country’s economic development. At the same time, he stressed the need to develop Chhattisgarh as an education hub.<\/p>\n

He said all sections of society had a role in realising the objectives of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat. The Governor also urged students to stay away from substance abuse, maintain their physical and mental well-being and contribute to nation-building.<\/p>\n

A total of 504 students were conferred undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the convocation. Nineteen students received gold medals and 16 were awarded silver medals for academic excellence during the 2025 and 2026 academic sessions.<\/p>\n

National Security Advisory Board member and defence scientist V. Satheesh Reddy and ICFAI University Chancellor R.P. Kaushik also addressed the gathering. Vice-Chancellor Shiv Dayal Pandey delivered the welcome address and presented the university’s report.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n
