TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 28, 2026: Following directions from Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the district administration has been placed on high alert in view of the rising water level in the Mahanadi and waterlogging in coastal areas of Janjgir-Champa district. Collector Shri Janmejay Mahobe and Superintendent of Police Shri Vijay Kumar Pandey visited Shivrinayaran to inspect the barrage, bridge and riverside areas and reviewed the prevailing water level and flow, as well as preparedness for relief and rescue operations. They directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring and take immediate action as required.<\/p>\n
The Collector and SP inspected the Shivrinayaran barrage and bridge, vulnerable riverside areas and the relief camp set up at Shri Mahant Laldas College. The camp has arrangements for accommodation, food, clean drinking water, lighting, sanitation and toilets for affected residents. Officials were instructed to give special attention to the safety and convenience of people staying at the camp.<\/p>\n
Movement across the Mahanadi bridge has been stopped as a precautionary measure following the increase in water flow. The Collector and SP directed officials to maintain continuous vigil around the bridge and adjoining areas and prevent people from approaching locations with strong currents. Necessary safety measures are also being implemented at other vulnerable locations based on the water level and flow.<\/p>\n
Health Department teams have been deployed in affected areas and are conducting regular health check-ups. Adequate stocks of essential medicines are being maintained, while health and sanitation measures are being taken to prevent waterlogging-related illnesses and infections.<\/p>\n
The Collector and SP directed the Revenue, Police, Nagar Sena, Water Resources and Health departments, among others, to work in close coordination. Vulnerable riverside and waterlogging-prone areas are being monitored continuously. Human resources and other necessary equipment have been kept ready to evacuate affected residents to safer locations and initiate relief and rescue operations immediately if required.<\/p>\n
In accordance with the Chief Minister\u2019s directions, public safety remains the administration\u2019s top priority. Announcements are being made in vulnerable riverside areas and localities that have experienced waterlogging in the past, informing residents about the possibility of further waterlogging and necessary safety precautions. Water levels, bridges, culverts and routes used for public movement are being closely monitored so that prompt action can be taken if conditions change.<\/p>\n
The Collector and SP appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary visits to rivers, bridges, ghats and areas with strong water currents. They specifically cautioned people against taking risks for selfies or videos near fast-flowing water and urged them not to enter routes or locations closed by the administration for safety reasons. Any emergency should be reported immediately to the concerned authorities to facilitate timely relief and rescue.<\/p>\n
The district administration continues to closely monitor conditions along the Mahanadi. In line with the Chief Minister\u2019s directions, all concerned departments are working in coordination, with the safety of affected residents and provision of essential services being given priority. Relief camp arrangements have been put in place, health teams are conducting medical checks, and personnel from the Police, Revenue, Nagar Sena and Water Resources departments remain prepared for relief and rescue operations.<\/p>\n
