Assembly General Election-2023: Clean Sweep as Defacement of Property Act Takes Effect

  • Over 1.47 Lakh Banners, Posters, and Wall Writings Removed from Public and Private Properties

TFP Bureau, Raipur ; Oct 11, 2023 : With the swift onset of the Model Code of Conduct for the Assembly General Elections-2023 in the state, the wheels of action have been set in motion to cleanse public and private properties of wall writings, posters, and banners under the Defacement of Property Act.

As of October 10, a staggering total of 1,47,447 promotional materials have been successfully eradicated from both categories of properties across the state. These efforts have culminated in the resolution of 1,14,320 cases concerning public properties and 33,127 cases pertaining to private properties.

Mrs. Reena Babasaheb Kangale, Chief Electoral Officer of the state, disclosed that a grand total of 1,91,700 cases were identified under the Defacement of Property Act by all collectors and district election officers. This substantial figure comprises 1,39,740 cases linked to public property and 51,960 cases linked to private property.

District administrations are diligently driving the removal process, adhering to the legal provisions of the Act.Under the Act’s mandate, extensive actions have been initiated for the removal of banners, posters, and wall writings from government and private properties.

Some of the notable statistics include 11,039 cases in Durg district, 1,478 in Sukma, 5,200 in Gariaband, 2,913 in Bemetra, 1,223 in Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, 13,578 in Balod, 2,461 in Jashpur, 373 in Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, and 9,881 in Surguja.

Furthermore, actions taken under the Property Distortion Act have been comprehensive, with 7,977 in Balodabazar-Bhatapara district, 6,052 in Raigarh, 2,172 in Surajpur, 2,016 in Kanker, 4,305 in Bilaspur, 491 in Dantewada, 6,336 in Mahasamund, 4,634 in Janjgir-Champa, 488 in Bastar, 9,106 in Korba, 9,262 in Kondagaon, 1,468 in Kabirdham, 642 in Bijapur, 1,401 in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, 1,350 in Rajnandgaon, 7,432 in Balrampur-Ramanujganj, 2,384 in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, 615 in Korea, 634 in Narayanpur, 7,789 in Mungeli, and Sakti.

In addition, efforts have been vigorously made to remove wall writings, posters, and banners from 5,245 properties in Uttar Pradesh, 5,464 in Dhamtari, and a remarkable 12,038 properties in Raipur, as of October 10. These actions underscore the commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process during the forthcoming state elections.
