Calling it a historic leap in infrastructure investment, the Chief Minister thanks Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, saying enhanced rail connectivity will transform tribal regions, boost industry and accelerate overall development.
TFP Bureau, Raipur, February 2, 2026: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday welcomed the unprecedented allocation of ₹7,470 crore for railway infrastructure development in the state, terming it a major boost under the “double-engine government.” Expressing heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Chief Minister said the massive investment reflects the Centre’s strong commitment to the state’s growth and connectivity.
Shri Sai said that the railway sector in Chhattisgarh is undergoing visible and transformative change due to sustained efforts and coordinated planning between the Centre and the state. He pointed out that during the period 2009–14, Chhattisgarh received an average annual railway allocation of just ₹311 crore. In sharp contrast, the ₹7,470 crore provision in the Union Budget 2026–27 represents nearly a 24-fold increase, setting a new benchmark in the state’s infrastructure development history.
The Chief Minister informed that railway projects worth approximately ₹51,080 crore are currently underway across Chhattisgarh. These include new railway line construction, capacity expansion, station redevelopment, electrification, and major safety upgrades. He said these projects will not only strengthen passenger connectivity but also significantly enhance freight movement, benefitting trade, industry and agriculture.
Highlighting inclusive development, Shri Sai described the commencement of the Rowghat–Jagdalpur rail project as a historic and invaluable gift for the tribal-dominated Bastar region. He said the long-pending project will connect Jagdalpur with the broader rail network, opening new avenues for development in one of the state’s most remote areas. Improved rail access, he added, will facilitate better connectivity to markets, educational institutions, healthcare services and employment opportunities for tribal communities.
The Chief Minister further said that along with the Parmalkasa–Kharsiya rail corridor, new freight corridors have also been approved for the state. These strategically important projects are expected to greatly improve logistics efficiency, reduce transportation costs for industries, and support mineral- and agriculture-based economic activities. He noted that, with the completion of ongoing projects, the number of passenger trains in Chhattisgarh is likely to nearly double in the coming years.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana, 32 railway stations across Chhattisgarh are being redeveloped with modern, passenger-friendly and inclusive facilities. Stations such as Dongargarh (Phase I), Ambikapur, Bhanupratappur, Bhilai and Urkura have already been completed, offering improved amenities, accessibility features and upgraded infrastructure. Shri Sai said these redeveloped stations reflect a new vision of rail travel focused on comfort, safety and efficiency.
He also highlighted that two pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains and one pair of Amrit Bharat Express trains are currently operating in the state, providing passengers with faster, safer and more modern travel options. These premium services, he said, are improving long-distance connectivity and enhancing the overall travel experience for citizens.

The Chief Minister noted that since 2014, Chhattisgarh has seen the construction of nearly 1,200 kilometres of new railway tracks, achieved 100 per cent electrification of its rail network, and completed around 170 flyovers and underpasses. The installation of advanced safety systems such as ‘Kavach’ has further strengthened safety standards and reduced the risk of accidents.
“Due to these comprehensive and sustained efforts, Chhattisgarh is steadily emerging as one of India’s leading states in railway connectivity and infrastructure,” Shri Sai said. He emphasised that the impact of railway development goes far beyond transportation, as it is energising trade, tourism, industrial growth and employment generation, while also improving the everyday lives of people.
On behalf of the people of Chhattisgarh, the Chief Minister once again expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw for what he described as visionary and transformative initiatives. He said the enhanced railway network will play a crucial role in accelerating the state’s overall growth trajectory and strengthening its integration with the national economy.
