Police Procedures Faster Under New Criminal Laws, Says Deputy CM Vijay Sharma

Government prioritising peace in Bastar and tech-driven policing; Chhattisgarh integrating justice system pillars as national model

TFP Bureau, Raipur, February 13: Vijay Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister of Chhattisgarh, said on Friday that the implementation of new criminal laws has significantly accelerated police procedures and simplified investigation processes, while strengthening law enforcement efficiency across the state.

Addressing journalists at the Samvad Auditorium in Naya Raipur, Sharma highlighted his government’s focus on modernisation, institutional coordination, and citizen-centric policing. He emphasised that maintaining peace in Bastarremains a top priority and said the administration is working with a “new thinking” to enhance governance capacity.

Integrated Justice System Driving Reforms

Sharma noted that the state is leading efforts to integrate all five pillars of criminal justice—police, prosecution, forensics, prisons, and judiciary—through the ICJS platform. As pilot projects, Durg and Bilaspur districts have emerged as model regions demonstrating coordinated functioning.

He added that digital evidence systems have resolved earlier challenges faced by investigators in collecting proof, improving morale within the force.

Insurance Cover for Police Personnel

The minister announced that memoranda of understanding with eight banks now provide premium-free insurance on salary accounts for all personnel of the Chhattisgarh Police. More than ₹16 crore has already been disbursed to the families of 15 martyred personnel, which he described as a major welfare initiative.

Digital Tools and Complaint Portal

According to Sharma, technology platforms under CCTNS—including online FIR registration, e-summons, e-sign, e-courts, and digital documentation—have streamlined procedures and improved public access to justice.

A statewide Crime Review application now monitors FIRs in real time, ensuring accountability and timely investigation. In addition, a new online complaint management portal at Police Headquarters has replaced postal correspondence, speeding up grievance redressal and reducing administrative delays.

Crackdown on Illegal Immigration and Crime

The Home Minister said a special task force has been formed to identify illegal immigrants, leading to the deportation of 34 individuals so far. Holding centres have also been established for undertrials pending legal processing. He added that the Anti-Terrorist Squad, which had not registered cases since its inception, conducted its first operation in 2025.

He further stated that police are taking strict action against illegal cattle slaughter and trafficking, with 142 vehicles seized and 27 auctioned. Authorities have also compiled a list of habitual offenders and initiated surveillance against 19 individuals.

Action Against Drug Trafficking

Sharma said sustained enforcement drives against narcotics networks include financial investigations and property seizures to dismantle trafficking syndicates. Confiscated drugs and assets are being auctioned as part of efforts to weaken criminal infrastructure.

The Deputy Chief Minister concluded that technology-driven policing, welfare measures for personnel, and strict enforcement against organised crime are central to the government’s strategy to strengthen law and order across the state.
